hueningkai sighed, looking up at his ceiling that was covered in random little splats of paint. his arms were under his head and he laid in his bed thinking.
why me? im no different than the next person, so why am i the only person i know that can do something like this?
everytime he entered the gates of his school, he was haunted by the almost inevitable fate of at least one person a day.
it reminded him how quickly your life could end and before you knew it, all your memories, all your goals, all your feelings, thoughts and emotions were gone in an instant.
of course, it pained him to think about his mother's fate, but he tried not to make eye contact with her for too long. not that it mattered, recently she'd been on the phone more, whispering about different things each time, but all tying back to the same general subject.
he'd been trying to get a better hold of who, or what more specifically, he saw. for example, he tried to skip the painful, gory details of the death, the sights often made his breath hitch and heart race.
kai had done a bit of research, not enough really, but he didn't like to be constantly reminded of what he could do.
his search history consisted of:
-seeing deaths
-why can i see people dying
-seeing death dates and causes
-what does it mean when you see squirrels eating your eyelashes off in your sleep
-death sightbefore, almost every second he spent alive were filled with negative thoughts and emotions such as anxiety and fear.
he'd told his mother about his newfound 'ability' after a week of him creeping around and being filled with paranoia. at first she didn't believe him, which is why around that time he showed her the process of 'predicting ones death'.
that was almost three years ago.
a knock on his door made his head turn.
it opened to show his mother with an all too cheery smile on her face and her hair pinned up.
"kai sweetie, your dad has come to visit. he's downstairs and would like to see you for a moment."
"what could he possibly want now?" hueningkai sighed, not realizing he said his words out loud. he zipped up his jacket and rolled off his bed to go greet the man.
kai and his dad weren't on good terms. well, at least in his eyes.
his dad always promised him things and he never went through with it. he didn't pay child support, he never bought him any school supplies, and he only talked to him on the phone once, once again full of empty promises.
so when kai's heavy steps stomped down the stairs, his 'father' immediately looked up and kai could tell he was about to lie.
he had a glint in his eyes, his intentions apparent.
"kai, my favorite son!"
the teen rolled his eyes, he always said the same thing.
"im your only child."
his dad was a bit put off by his words, but quickly collected himself.
"nonetheless, still my favorite!" he said with a dazzling smile.
kai heaved, it would be a long day.
