Yuuri never exactly thought he was anything but average.

Average height, average hair, average eyes, average everything. You wouldn't notice him amongst the mob of students attending the Detroit state college.
The only thing Yuuri could say made him truly special was the fact that he was a student that came from overseas, which wasn't even something that was exactly uncommon at the university.

Yuuri was nothing special. Quiet, shy, and always studying. He only had one occurring friend that was more of a roommate or co-worker.
They'd probably had only 1 entire conversation that wasn't about anything related to who was doing the dishes that night.

But out of everything, Yuuri was a textbook definition of a bystander.

Because of how easily he seemed to blend in the stark areas, he has overheard things that Yuuri wouldn't dare admit out loud.

He's heard scandals, cheating, offers of sexual favors, and so on.
Yuuri would find himself watching the moments of intense drama that the whole campus would be gossiping days before the news even broke.

Out of everything he's listened to, whether it popular student having risen to fame and every introverted getting their first taste of romance, nobody had interested him more then Victor Nikiforov.

They came into the same year together, both having English as their second language, yet somehow Victor managed to be more social then Yuuri could ever even imagine to be.

Gorgeous Victor with his long flowing hair that sparkled like diamonds and a Cupid bow lined across sugar pink lips. Pretty Victor who owned a voice that seemed to be akin to melted gold and honey.

When Yuuri first saw him, he couldn't take his eyes off the Russian beauty. But then again, nor could anyone else.

So when Yuuri saw Victor walking to his first period class with a handsome man side by side and leaning in for a short lived kiss before parting, he wasn't surprised.

Yuuri still couldn't help but to continue to watch Victor from afar. He watched Victor go through his lovers over the two years since he'd started.
He's watch him reject admires, order coffee with far too much sugar at a local cafe, coo over dogs openly in his mother language in the middle of campus, and show up to school second year with shortened hair one day without warning.

He's memorized the name of all the other Russian transfer students that were close friends with him. Yuuri had self-consciously even remembered his schedule by accident after a while.

Yuuri knew he had a crush of sorts towards Victor. Nearly everyone had.
Yuuri didn't have a chance, they didn't even share any of the same classes. A relationship wouldn't do anything but hinder him and his anxiety anyways. The crush on an unobtainable god was already doing enough as it was.

After the months and months of unrequited pining, Yuuri just accepted it. He still watched from afar, not helping but to smile behind his books whenever Victor would make a joke with his massive group of friends two tables away. He'd still find himself thinking about the Russian whenever he had the time to.

Yuuri still fantasied and imagines that Victor would one day take him in as friend or an acquaintance on lonely nights.

Yuuri never really took those dreams too seriously because at the end of the day, Yuuri was more of a logical person then someone who'd even believe that Victor even would know his name out of everyone that deserved hearing their name exit his lips.

He'd accepted that they would never meet, not because he doesn't want to, but because it was a fact that was guaranteed to happen.

So when Yuuri entered his new dorm, anxiety growing like a vine in his bones, he originally thought he was hallucinating.

There was no way in hell that he could be seeing correctly. Yuuri adjusted his glasses and squinted before letting out a sharp gasp.

And with that thought, Victor Nikiforov's eyes met with his.
