"Captain?"

"Yes?" He sighed and looked over at you.

"I'm hungry." You whispered, mainly embarrassed.

"We're not done training yet!" He seemed annoyed and looked over at you.

"Ok... sorry." You stared at your feet while Tōshirō sighed and looked at you.

"Draw your sword." He commanded.

"Yessir!" And you pulled Rosa out.

"I think we should practice basic fighting skills.
I have faith that your Zanpakutō will take care of you, but the least you can do in return is learn how to fight." Tōshirō explained to you while looking straight at you.

Although he was talking, you found yourself struggling to concentrate. Perhaps it was the newfound relationship with Rosa, or maybe it was the everlasting scowl on Tōshirō's face. Everything today left you feeling overwhelmed yet excited. Although Tōshirō always scowled, you had a feeling he meant well. There was a glimmer of determination in his ice cold eyes.

"Are you even PAYING attention?!" This time Tōshirō shouted.

You snapped back to reality.

I like this guy. Keep him around.

Rosa spoke and then left just like that. It seems like Rosa didn't plan on helping you much today.
Why did he choose to like Tōshirō, who never seemed happy with you no matter what you did?

"You already know flash step. I want you to learn to yield your Zanpakutō." Tōshirō said this while admiring his own. His eyes softened for a second. Was that... love in his eyes?

"How long have you had yours?" You interrupted. You just had to know.Tōshirō seemed taken back by your question for a second, but regained his composure.

"Since I was younger. He's always been around. He wasn't always as helpful as yours though. I had to fight to tame him." Tōshirō said this while staring at his own reflection in his Zanpakutō.

We spent the remainder of the day swinging just swords. There were no ifs, ands, or buts. No magic involved either, just pure sword yielding and working out. You were nowhere near as fit as Tōshirō, but you got the hang of it sooner or later.

After you were done, you could hear your tummy grumble.

"What was that?" Tōshirō has a glimmer of mischief in his eyes. You were red as a beat realizing your tummy was loud enough for him to hear!

"My tummy... I told you I was hungry!" You were slightly agitated but didn't lose composure. More than anything, you were embarrassed.

"Yet you still trained. I'm proud. Tonight, your dining will be on me. I'd like to show you my favorite place in town."

Your jaw dropped in amazement. Should you go? Was this a trap?
The Captain had never been this nice to you.

Go. Eat something, I'm starving!

"Thanks Captain." You blushed, accepted, and looked back down at your feet.
