Please, keep your distance

Why do I always look better from a distance?
Why do I always look better in the dark?
Why do I look better when you can only see my eyes?
Why do I look nicer when you can only see my hand?

Well, what happens when that distance is closed?
What happens when the light turns on?
What happens when you can see me fully?
What happens when you decide you don't want me?

And you really won't want me if you close that distance
You won't want me once you've turned on the light
You won't want me when you can see me fully
Just trust me and please don't look closely

Don't feed me lies that I'm pretty, perfect
Don't tell me words without evidence
Keep your eyes closed, stay far away
Or you'll see me, real and ugly

I'm fine.
