-----------------
Robin was studying the clock carefully in the Scoops Ahoy ice cream parlor. Her foot tapped faster than the seconds ticked by, but she had good reason to be excited. She would be eating lunch with the girl of her dreams, Lucy Sutton. Though they didn't work together, they both worked in the Starcourt mall. While Robin slang ice cream for kids all day, Lucy worked at Waldenbooks.
As soon as the clock hit two, Robin quickly threw off her apron and hat off, throwing them through the opening of the backroom and jumped over the counter.
"Going on break, see you later Dingus!" Robin quickly said as she ran out to the water fountain to wait for Lucy.
She sat down on the edge and tried to calm her breathing down so it didn't look like she ran there, which she did. Robin looked up and saw Lucy walking towards her with a book in hand. One day Robin had mentioned that she loved reading, trying to impress Lucy, and the next day Lucy brought her a book. Ever since then, Lucy would bring her a book about once a week.
"What do we have this week?" Robin said, standing up as Lucy got close enough to hear her.
"Pet Cemetery by Steven King hot off the presses! Just got released today and they sold out! I put one aside just for you though." Lucy said with a bright smile.
Robin couldn't help but blush. Lucy had a way of making robin feel so special. She was so thoughtful and kind, not to mention gorgeous. Green eyes that hid behind her wired rim glasses, long brunette hair, and a body that could rival the cheerleaders at their school, Robin's jaw hit the ground the first time they bumped into each other. Robin thought she had no chance, but Steve kept on nagging her to at least try.
Robin took the book from the girl.
"Thanks! I'll tell you how it is once it's finished! Add that to my tab." Robin said with a wink.
Lucy laughed and shook her head. "It's on me. I don't mind getting you things! It's worth it to see those dimples!"
Robin blushed again, but tried to play it off by running her fingers through her shoulder length hair.
"So what are we doing for lunch today?" Rose asked as the two started to walk away from the fountain.
"Actually, I have something special set up, but it's a surprise so you have to close your eyes!" Robin said with a smirk.
Lucy raised her eyebrow and shrugged. She shut her eyes and held her hand out. "If you push me into the water fountain, your ass is getting splashed!" Lucky laughed as Robin took her hand, leading her back towards Scoops.
Steve had noticed the two always taking their break together, and put things together when Robin would come back from her break with a big goofy smile. He managed to convince Robin to do something about her feelings, and Robin being the hopeless romantic she was, she had to go big.
"I smell chocolate ice cream. Are we in Scoops?" Lucy asked, confused as all hell.
"I should have asked you to hold your nose! We are in Scoops, but it's not our destination." Robin said as they walked behind the counter.
Steve held up two thumbs up to offer Robin some encouragement, but she just rolled her eyes at him.
The two girls walked through the back door into their break room and then through the door that connected the stores with a hallway. Robin dragged her into the movie theater then up some stairs. They walked up to the projector room of one of the theaters and there a picnic was set up. A blanket was laid down with popcorn, some coke and, chocolate bars on top. Robin had to promise to give the creepy teen movie worker a week of free ice cream to do that, but to her, it was well worth it.
"I smell...popcorn?" Lucy said as Robin let go of her hand and grabbed the rose she had bought for the girl.
Robin started to feel butterflies in her stomach as her nerves grew. She wasn't sure how'd Lucy would react to all this, hell, Robin wasn't even sure if she was gay. Robin hoped she wasn't going to ruin their friendship, but she had to do something with her feelings or she would explode.
"You can open your eyes now." Robin said with a deep breath.
Lucky opened her eyes and looked around, seeing the picnic and the reels of film on the walls. Her eye then shifted to a clearly nervous Robin.
"Lucy, I like you. And not in a friend way. Well, yes a friend way, you are probably the best friend I have next to Steve, but I like you as more too. Like the 'I want to kiss you and make you the happiest girl in the world' type of like. I've been wanting to tell you for a while now." Robin rushed out as she held out the rose for Lucy.
A few moment passed by, which felt like hours for Robin, as Lucy took in what Robin had said.
Finally, she smiled brightly. Lucky took a step closer to Robin and placed her hand on her cheek.
"You make me so happy Robin." Lucy said before leaning into her, their lips meeting for a quick, yet meaningful kiss. Lucy pulled away.
"And I want to kiss you too." She said, letting out a soft chuckle at Robin's completely shocked face.Lucy took the rose and smelled it. "It's beautiful, like you." She said kissing Robins cheek. As she did that, the movie projector started to play the film, Back to the Future.
Lucy sat down on the blanket and pat the spot next to her.
Robin, who was beaming and still in shock about what had happened, sat down next to her, placing her arm around the girls shoulder."I think the movie will take longer than our break." Lucy said leaning into Robin's shoulder.
"This date is worth getting fired for." Robin said as she kissed the top of Lucy's head.
