What if Germany Got the Nuke???

The Second World War ushered in a new form of warfare on the frontlines. The old ways of gentlemen warfare, and long range sniping duels was clearly obsolete when the war began on September 1st, 1939. Combat was now much faster paced, closer range with the enemy, and the matter of life or death was not decided by accuracy but shear volume and rate of fire. However in the midst of all these upgraded machine guns being made and used, there was one notable weapon being supposedly developed by the Germans. This suspicion led to the United States developing their own version of the exact same weapon before the Germans could successfully make it. I'm talking of course about the nuclear bomb, and this obviously begs the question: what would it be like if Germany got the nuke first?

This alternate timeline begins in April 1939 with the opening of the Nazi's nuclear weapons program, they have just started researching nuclear fission to create a huge bomb that can plant fear into the allies. In our timeline the Germans came close to building a nuclear missile with the creation of the V2 rocket but it didn't have the power the nuclear bomb would have, and went though many failed launch tests that Hitler abandoned the project for the most part. They were also missing one key figure in the scientific community, I'm talking of course about Albert Einstein. Now Albert Einstein was living in Germany, but he fled to the United States when Hitler took over to avoid the holocaust because Einstein was Jewish. However in this alternate timeline, the Nazis have to make a special deal with Einstein to make him discover nuclear fission under their watchful eye.

So Einstein in this alternate timeline is helping the Germans build a nuclear weapon by discovering nuclear fission just as the Nazis invade Poland in September of 1939 beginning the war. The allies declare war on Germany which forces Einstein to quicken the pace on his discovery of nuclear fission before the allies of France and Britain come; and in fact he finds it by late spring of 1940. He discovers how to split atoms which is one of the key factors in creating nuclear weapons; now all that was left to do was to put that process into a bomb that can be dropped on a city.

This process would not be done before the Nazis invade France, and install a puppet regime within the country. They would be relying on a long series of tests and prototypes that would last a couple years before they were ready to launch a nuclear weapon at the allies. During this time the Germans would be bombing London as Winston Churchill says Britain "will never surrender!", the Soviet Union still gets invaded in June of 1941, and Japan bombs Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.

Speaking of Pearl Harbor and the United States! Without Einstein there to help the United States discover nuclear fission and build a nuclear weapon, they are unable to make a nuclear bomb to start with. Now, could the United States still find a scientist to discover nuclear fission? Maybe... but for the sake of argument, Einstein was the driving force that began the creation of the nuclear bomb. Without him America's nuclear program has no starting point to go off of to try and get a nuclear weapon before Germany does.

So, 1942 rolls around and Germany has backed the Soviets up to Moscow but their frontline was frozen due to the harsh winter that set in. They have now constructed a nuclear missile factory that is now creating a Kissel that could hold a nuclear weapon inside of it. This overall model would be similar to the V2 rocket that the Nazis created in our timeline, but this time it actually is a nuclear weapon. They spend the year creating this missile working around the clock to get this missile finished before a Soviet, or British counterattack could commence. Once the winter is over and the weather gets better the Germans begin to move towards the Caucasus to Stalingrad. By the end of the year the German forces get surrounded by the Russians at Stalingrad and are facing increasing pressure by Soviet attacks... That is until...
