Phase 18

"Are you guys excited?" My dad asked glancing at us through the review mirror

"Yes! I feel like this new shop will be great for mom." Hyeya said enthusiastically

"So do I. I'm sure you two will love it. It's very cute." My mom said smiling

"Ew, why cute?" I asked wrinkling my nose

"Because it looks better dork." My sister said knocking against my head

"Mom! Hyeya is hitting me again!" I whined out glaring at her

"Hyeya, leave your brother alone."

"Yes Dad." She said smiling innocently

I stuck out my tongue at her and she pinched my cheeks as I swatted her hand away.

"So, are you going to accept that higher position? It sounded like a good-...Honey watch out!"

Everything slowed. I looked to the side and saw the truck barreling towards us as Hyeya's terrified scream ripped through the air. I remember the impact sending our car spiraling in circles as I watched my mother's head smack against the window. A sickening sound of something cracking and breaking as the car crashed against the ground.

I woke up later to my sister crying next me. Our bodies a few feet away from the burning vehicle.

"Please! Someone please help them! Please!" She cried out hysterically

I sat up and looked in front of me. My parents bodies were motionless. Blood was pouring out of my father's chest and my mother's face was bare. Her eyes wide and empty.

I could faintly feel pain radiating from my entire body but I could only stare.

My lips formed the two words, "M-mom...? Dad?"

The flames rose higher and I could only sit there and watch. Watch my parents bodies burn as the fire licked their skin and hear my sister's agonized cries.

I just sat there.

I jolted awake and felt bile rise in my throat as I rushed into the bathroom and threw up. My cheek were wet with tears and my body was shaking violently as I breathed harshly. My dad's marred body reappeared in my head and a new round of nausea caused me to throw up once again.

After I was sure I was ok, I brushed my teeth and took a shower. I couldn't sleep anymore. Not again. Not tonight.

I walked over and grabbed my phone and checked the time.

I grabbed a large hoodie and slipped it over my head. I opened the door to my room and closed it quietly. The hallways were silent and the windows provided enough moonlight as I found my way to the backyard.

I went outside and the singing cicadas greeted me as I leaned against the rail.

"Hey dad." I whispered out "I'm sorry I haven't visited you. I guess I don't want to see the truth...How is mom and Hyeya? I hope they're ok.....The people here are sweet you know? They've given me food, clothes, and even a place to stay. You'd like them dad. Especially Jin hyung. He makes the best dad jokes. You liked those."

I felt tears cloud my vision.

"I miss you guys." My voice cracked and tears escaped my eyes "I miss you, mom and Hyeya. I had the dream again tonight. I'm scared they're going to come back. I'm scared dad. I'm so scared. Why did you guys leave me alone? I feel so abandoned dad. I just....I just want to hug you guys again..."
