A thought to be extinct group of mages as the last known Draconic Mage to have lived was Draco Embernest himself. Draconic Mages are incredibly rare as only those born with the fire of a dragon within their blood can be trained to use well draconic magic, another fact that makes this brand of magic users so rare is their bonded familiars are in fact dragons themselves and dragons haven't been seen within the magical world for hundreds of years.
But the truth is that dragons have gone into hiding since the dragon hunts, when oridinary magic users would hunt down their kind and kill them so people who did have the blood to become a Draconic Mage could not. Draco Embernest, a powerful draconic mage at the time, pledged his loyalty to the dragons that he would hide and protect their eggs so that when the time was right they could rise back into the world again without fear of being hunted. This was around the time when he and the other four founders created Magus Academy, Draco built a hidden chamber underneath the school that would preserve the dragon eggs until the chamber was reopened again by those fated to weild their power.

Draconic mages don't get to choose their dragon familiar, the dragon chooses them. A bond between dragon and mage often begins when the dragon first hatches from its egg. Once a dragon chooses a mage to be bonded to that bond cannot be broken or severed unless ether the mage or the dragon dies. Most often when this happens the one who survives often goes crazy from the broken bond and falls into the dark side, they often have to be put down for the safety of themselves and others.
A bond between mage and dragon is a very powerful thing, the stronger the bond is the more powerful the mage. When the bond between dragon and mage is first created the dragon leaves a mark on the mage, a tattoo to repersent that they have claimed this mage as their brother or sister in all ways except blood. There is no master and servent when it comes to a bond with a dragon as it is much more deeper then that, it is like having a family that would never abandon you.
Though it is rare, sometimes when the bond is deep enough between dragon and mage they are able to communicate with their bonded partner with their minds. If they are old enough they may even let you ride on their back, and protect you in all ways like their bonded mage would do for them.

Like mentioned in the topic above if the bond between dragon and mage is severed or broken it could be disastorous. The most often way this bond is broken is through well the death of ether the mage or their dragon, the one who survives the severing of the bond often goes insane becoming a threat to not only those around them but to themselves as well. The more powerful the mage or dragon is, the more dangerous they become when their bond is broken.

Though he is said to be the last of the draconic mages Draco Embernest never revealed the truth that there were still more of his kind hidden out within the world. Before his death he wrote of a hidden society of draconic mages, ones who were not yet bonded with their dragon partners as he had hidden the eggs to keep their kind safe. Draco Embernest never wrote where this hidden society of draconic mages lived or anything more about them except for the fact that their secret would be revealed once the hidden dragon eggs were found.
It was rumoured that those who went missing from the magical world were apart of this hidden society of draconic mages and that they had gone into hiding because of a new danger that threatened their lives. None of these rumours have been proven true of course but some still believe that they could be
