“for how long are you going to stay here?” he asked while we wander the woods.
“i’m not sure, maybe till we need to prepare for the next school year.”
“hah!” he beamed and stopped, “lo and behold.”
i noticed a small made up house in front of us, “castle byers,” i read.
“let’s go inside.”
i tried to relax and be at home inside. i examined all these sketches hanging up his wall, they're so good, “you drew them?”
“uh- yes, i love to draw once in a while then bring them here, sometimes i go here just to draw,” i could see how he enjoys talking about it, “i spend way too much time here than our own house.”
“why exactly?”
“let’s just say, my father doesn’t really like how i spend most of my time,” he explained pointing at his drawings, “he’d rather see me play baseball or something like that, hence the bat behind you.”
i turned around and faced him again, then nodded, “i don’t know what he’s thinking but these are great sketches.”
i got one from the many, tried to really examine it.
“thank you,” he noticed i was holding one of his drawings, he was a bit alarmed? “uh i’m sorry- you’re not supposed to see that.”
“a sunflower?”
“huh?”
i showed him his drawing, it was nice, why wasn’t i supposed to see it?
“oh,” i saw him grabbed another paper from the pile, “i thought you were looking at this one.”
i grabbed it from his hand, “can i keep it?”
it was a drawing of the both of us, he was leaning on me as we stare at the night sky.
“i don’t know,” he shyly looked away and slowly face me again, “do you like it?”
“would i ask if i could keep it if i don’t?”
“okay, fine.”
he looked at the sunflower drawing i was holding earlier, “have you seen one before?”
“like in person?” he nodded, “nope, not even the ones they sell in the shops, i have never been in one or even passed by one.”
“okay, i know where we’re going tomorrow morning.”
once again, i woke up without will in sight, only this time i wasn’t in panic mode already. i’ve already gotten a hang of the place.
“will?” i shouted, in hopes of him answering, “where are you?”
i went out of castle byers, he was there, sitting with two cups of i don't know.
“join me.”
“where did you get that?”
“at max’s, i don't want to wake you up and walk all the way there.”
i smiled, shyly, why do this boy care about me so much? i can’t even get a bit from my friends before?
“it’s fine, there’s a beautiful view up there.”
“oh, so now you’re saying that, after all the father cannibalism story you made up on our way there?”
we both laughed as we remember it, “i’m sorry but yeah, the walk was so worth it.”
“now finish that, we’re going somewhere,” he smiled.
“don’t i get a shower before the date?”
before i even knew it, i was showered by coffee that was once in his mouth, “uh- thanks.”
after rinsing off the coffee out of me by taking a swim to the lake nearby, and will letting me wear his spare clothes, he finally decided that it’s time.
“let’s go.”
“uh- where exactly?” i asked as i tried to shake my head as they’re still wet.
“it’s a secret till we get there.”
we ended up at a field, “a sunflower field?”
he just nodded and pulled me as we walked towards a blanket with a basket laying on it that i don't know what’s inside, usually, it’s food in there, if this is a picnic.
we sat on the blanket.
“i knew it.”
“that i’m gonna take you in a sunflower field?”
“that you’re gonna take me out on a date.”
he was once again smiling shyly, looking away, staring at the sunflowers, and they were probably smiling back, “did you like it?”
i nodded.
“i like you.”
