— chapter five
ELIZABETH HAD BEEN FEELING WORSE AND WORSE about the care she'd been receiving from her brothers. They no longer wished her a good morning, and they never invited her to eat with them, only bringing her take out boxes from the diners they'd visisted. they barely spoke to her anymore. And if it wasn't for jack, she'd never have to speak to anyone again. She was scared.
Sam and dean had begun relying on bobby and castiel whenever they could, only calling her when absolutely necessary. it was complete agony for the girl.
"i will add to your 'at' to make 'rat'." lizzy spoke a lazy smile on her lips as she let her gaze fall to the board where she pushed an 'r' with her index finger.
"i will add to your 'rat' to make 'polyunsaturated'." he gave her a cheeky smile at her expression of disbelief.
"damn you and your god-brain." she groaned, the small compliment making the tips of his cheeks warm.
jack had now come to terms with what he was feeling, with castiel and google's help, and he was now at the part where he should be figuring out how to tell her. And he would've if it weren't for the thousands of articles telling him what to do if she doesn't feel the same or why she doesn't love him.
that had sent jack into a panic, especially when he discovered that sometimes the significant other will disassociate with him should the feelings not be returned.
Jack could not bare that. He had grown to almost revolve around Elizabeth. Everyday without falter, she was the first thing on his mind when he woke up, and the last thing when he closed his. If, he closed his eyes. Jack had found himself checking the room every moment of the day to see if she was watching him, he would try his best to talk to her as often as possible, but that proves to be a challenge when he discovered he couldn't start a conversation with her.
The poor boy was absolutely torn in between wanting to be around she every moment of the day and wanting to flash to china in order to avoid clinging onto her leg and never letting go.
He desperately wanted his feeling to be heard, to be noticed by her in hopes of a positive result, but sadly this insecurity would knot his vocal chords and choke him when all he wanted was to tell her he'd die if she were to leave him.
And while he hugged her or told her she'd be happier, it didn't mean his heart wouldn't feel as if it was made of air everytime she leaned her head onto his shoulder.
The bunker door slammed open and then shut, causing the girl to flinch and her smile flattened into a hard, pensive line. The changes in her behavior, like how her eyes would harden or her jaw would clench whenever her brothers entered the room made Jack's heart squeeze and his jaw sting.
Even he knew that family was not supposed to feel that way about each other.
Jack, from what he'd read and heard, knew family to be the one thing that never gives up on you, that loves you unconditionally, a face to turn to whenever you felt remotely hurt or insecure.
So whenever he would find himself with elizabeth on his shoulder, the fabric of his clothes wet with her tears and she sobbed into the crook of his neck, it made him both frown and smile faintly that she came to him for comfort over her own family.
Sam and Dean entered the library, making a show of slamming down their weapons and glaring at the pair silently before they too, parted ways.
all Jack could do, when he saw how her eyes glazed over and how her lip quivered ever the slightest, was reach across, his clammy hand shaking and clasping her soft and ever slightly mutilated hand in his, giving her the softest smile. It wasn't pitiful, it wasn't sympathetic, it was a smile that said 'I'll be your shoulder to cry on'.
Elizabeth only flashed the corner of her lips upwards and clawed her tears of her cheeks before they could fall.
"Let's keep playing." She drew a letter from the bag and placed it onto her shelf.
