Her son had become different ever since Midoriya had died. That was to be expected, but it had still surprised Mitsuki. He used to yell at the top of his lungs and swear right back at her no matter the situation, sad, happy, angry. Now he was just quiet. He was respectful, even. No more swearing, and whenever a question was asked, he just answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey, mom. I have a question about something that happened a little while ago."
"Alright?"
"When Inko was telling you things, what did she say about Midoriya's after-school habits?"
She paused at this. He was digging up old demons. She didn't know why, but it couldn't be a good thing.
"...Please. It's important."
Mitsuki sighed.
"She said he came home right after school, except for one day."
Silence.
"Thanks, mom. See you later."
He hung up. I hope he got what he wanted.
Midoriya had gone straight home every day. He hung out in the classrooms during lunch, never once leaving school premises. He only had one more option until he had to accept that Midoriya became a villain after his "death".
He took a steadying breath and called the one person who knew Izuku best.
"Inko Midoriya speaking. How may I help you?"
"..."
"Hello? If this is a prank, I would ask you to please leave me alone, I need to talk to my customers."
"H-hey, this is Katsuki Bakugou..."
"...Yes."
"I... I would like to know something about Midoriya if that's ok."
She didn't know about what he said, no one did. The only two people who might have were already half-way down the hallway, laughing and jeering. He breathed out shakily.
"How did Midoriya sleep?"
Inko didn't respond for a minute and Katsuki began to stress out. "S-sorry, it's kind o-"
"He slept fine. I don't know why you decided to contact me about him, but I would ask you don't ever again. I don't mind the occasional call just to say hi, and to maybe catch up a little, but I'm trying to live a functioning life right now, and bringing him up does not help me. Please, try to under... Un-" Her voice cracked and he could hear Inko crying on the other side.
Should he tell her?
"One last thing about him, please."
The crying on the other side of the line got quieter, trying to stay composed for the presumed question. But before Katsuki could speak again, Inko did.
"Do you understand that my beautiful child is gone? I will never get to hug him again, listen to him obsess over new heroes or All Might, watch him grow. I will never get to comfort him after a particularly hard day. I won't ever again be able to tease him about relationships at school. I won't get to sit down and just have a movie night again. I won't get to scold him for not cleaning his room on a rare occasion. I won't be able to sit there and treat wounds he said he got on accident. I won't get to see his smile again, or hear his laugh. I will never get laugh at his mumbling, or his attempts to figure something trivial out. I won't be able to do anything now, because someone couldn't keep his mouth shut, and I don't even know who to hate for draining the life from his bright eyes. My dearest Izuku is gone, and I won't see him again, won't say 'I love you' to him ever again, won't hear it in the same way ever again. So please, just stop." Inko broke down completely then, and she hung up.
...He was a terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible person.
