"Miss Carter! Please pay attention!" Ms. Cope yelled at me as my head shot up from my desk.
"Sorry, ma'am." I shrunk into my seat.***
"You're failing my class, Miss Carter, along with most of your classes. You may want to check yourself before we have to call your father." She grumbled as I nodded.
"He's not my father. He's my stepfather." I hissed silently as I walked to the garage and put on my coveralls.
"Hard day, darling?" Mr. Stonestreet asked as I nodded.
"Got any you need help with? I need to blow off some steam." I asked.
"Yeah. A 1933 Packard." He grinned."My daddy's car." I smiled wildly as I ran up to it. "Oh, she's beautiful." I grinned as I delicately ran my hand over her original paint job.
"And she's yours." He said tossing me the keys.
"Are you serious!?" I exclaimed as I ran over and hugged him.
"Yeah, all you have to do is fix her up a bit." He said as I nodded and got to work on her engine.***
I was loosing a bolt before Mr. Stonestreet pulled me out from under the car.
"The bell rang a while ago darling. You might want to head home." He said as I checked the clock.
"Shit! I missed my bus!" I exclaimed.
"I'll give you and your car a ride home, how about that?" He offered. I've known him since I was 4, and he was an older gentleman who basically raised me after my father died, so I accepted his generous offer and hopped into his car.
He drove me home with the radio full blast. Once we got there he quickly shut off the radio and pulled into my driveway to horse barn in the back.I unlatched the Packard from his 2013 Chevy Silverado, and he helped me push it into my garage.
"Thank you again." I smiled.
"Alright dear, there's only two things you have to do for me though." He said before he left.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Live a little, and find someone that'll make you happy. You deserve the best." He smiled as I nodded knowing very well that neither of those are going to happen.
"Oreo! Hunter! I'm home!" I called as my two dogs came running at me and jumped me. "Down Oreo. Good girl." I smiled at my husky aussie mix."Sit. Good boy Hunter." I grinned as my border collie sat in my lap.
"Who wants to help me feed the horses?" I asked as they barked happily.
I grabbed a stack of hay, and put some in Dallas' stall, then in my horse, Freedom's stall, before grabbing a few carrots for Dallas, and an apple for Freedom.Dallas
Freedom
"Who wants to go out riding?" I grinned as Freedom neighed at me. I pulled on my riding boots and placed her saddle on her back. I mounted Freedom quickly as we rode off to the meadow.
***
We stayed in the meadow for a while before a thunderstorm started to roll in. I laughed as it started to down pour on us and we rode into the barn. Lightning struck just behind us as a loud yell sounded. My eyes widened as I pushed Freedom into a run towards the sound.
We finally got to where the yell came from just to find quite a few people laying on the ground groaning in pain. I quickly dismounted and ran over to one of the people.
"Are you alright?" I panicked as the man rolled over to face me. I gasped. He looks an awful lot like Steve Rodgers aka Captain America.
"Please help us." He groaned.
"Of course." I soothed as I whistled for the other horses and my dogs.
"I'm going to take you to my home, ok? We might need to take a few trips back and forth though." I said as he nodded and I checked on everyone else. They all look like the Avengers... "Here, let me-." I started.
"No, them first." He said as I nodded.
"Spiderman? Kid? Can you hear me?" The ironman guy asked as he shook the kid, who wasn't responding.
"Here, can any of you stand? If you can't, please don't try, I have my horses here for a reason." I informed as they all groaned. This is going to be a long night...
