Sick

"You're really this stubborn, aren't you?" Genma said, walking with [Y/N] up the hall to her father's office. "You're sick, you need to go home and rest."

"No, you're working and everyone else is working and I want to work too. I don't want to sit at home." She mumbled over her words, unable to speak much louder thanks to the pounding in her head. Genma rolled his eyes but opened the door to the Hokage's office for her anyway. As soon as she set foot in the room, her father looked up at her.

"Nope, go home [Y/N]. Genma, would you escort her home for me? Take the rest of the day and take care of her, would you? I'll send for your replacement."

Genma bowed to the Hokage, nodding. "Yes sir."

[Y/N] rolled her eyes but was somewhat relieved that she was going home. She bowed sarcastically to her father as well; the sign of "respect" was something he knew she only did when she was unhappy with his answer. It never bothered him as it was quite amusing to see the disgruntled look on her face—it reminded him so much of her mother.

The Hokage shook his head and waved them away, turning back to his paperwork. Genma turned and opened the door once more for [Y/N] to step through. As soon as they were in the hall, she took to a coughing fit and leaned against the wall to catch her breath.

"Oh, boy." Genma said, watching her. He stepped closer to her and ducked down, picking her up bridal style in his arms. She started to protest, but the ache in her head told her to shut up. Instead she just nodded as a means of gratitude and Genma started making his way out of the building and to her apartment. Along the way, she fell asleep on him, snoring gently. Genma shook his head, laughing quietly at his girlfriend.

Upon making it inside her apartment, Genma took her straight to her room and laid her on the bed. He knelt down to remove her shoes for her, tossing them to the corner. He pulled off her vest and gloves as well, stripping her down to her undershirt and pants. He moved to cover her up and felt her forehead. She was warm and her cheeks were rosy. He sighed and turned around, heading out of the apartment once more.

She woke a few hours later to the sound of Genma's gentle voice. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, looking down at her. He'd removed his bandana and was in his mesh undershirt and pants (a sight that made her so desperately wish she wasn't sick and could partake in other activities). He smiled down at her and reached forward to feel her forehead again.

"You're still warm. Here, I bought you some cold medicine." He leaned forward to the side table, opening the bottle and pouring some of the medicine into the little plastic cup. She sat up slowly, watching him. He offered her the cup and she crinkled her nose at the smell of the green liquid.

He laughed at her reaction. "Baby I know, but you have to take it."

[Y/N] started to refuse, but the look on his face made her change her mind and she gulped it down, shaking her head at the bitter taste. "It's awful."

He laughed again, taking the cup from her. He looked back at her disheveled appearance, smiling at her. Even sick she was pretty and he couldn't believe he was the one who had nabbed her. Of all the men in the village and she chose him.

"What? Is my nose running again?" She asked when he kept staring at her.

"Oh, no, you're fine. I just like to look at you." Genma said, making her blush.

He stood up and held out his hands to help her up. "Come on, I ran you a bath. It's nice and warm and I used that vanilla bubble bath you like. I'll even get in with you and rub your back if you want."

She sighed happily and stood up. "Yes please."

Once they were both settled into the warm water, Genma against the wall and [Y/N] settled between his legs, he started rubbing her shoulders, working some of the knots out. "Look, after your bath I've got some homemade soup from Ma. The best you'll ever have, I swear. I'll warm it up while you get comfy in bed. Then, when you're finished eating, I was thinking I'd lay in bed with you and we could watch a movie before we fall asleep. How does that sound?"

[Y/N] sighed in bliss and nodded, enjoying the feel of her boyfriend's hands working across her back. Once the water started becoming cold, Genma hoisted her out of the tub and helped pat her dry before sending her back to bed. He made his way to the kitchen, warming up her soup and grabbing some crackers. He reentered the bedroom and sat the bowl on the side table. [Y/N] glanced over at it and couldn't stop her mouth from watering. "Your mother made soup for me?"

"Yeah, I seen her in the market when I left to get your medicine and she asked how I got the day off. I told her you were sick and she jumped at the chance to make it for you. Her exact words were 'I'd make anything for a woman who has you wrapped around her finger so much!'"

[Y/N] laughed (or tried to, but it mostly came out in coughs). "Surely I've not got you that wrapped up. I'm just me, Genma."

"You're my world, baby."

[Y/N] blushed and smiled, taking the bowl from the table and starting to eat. Genma wasn't a liar—his mom made the best soup she'd ever tasted and she told him so when she finished her dinner. He nodded and took the bowl from her, setting it aside and helping her snuggle back under the blankets. He settled in behind her, pulling her against him and kissing the back of her head.

"Yeah, Ma's pretty great. I can't wait for you to meet her."

[Y/N]'s eyes widened. "Meet her?"

"Yeah, I mean, eventually you'll have to meet my mother, don't you think?" Genma laughed.

"Genma..."

"Relax. Not right now. Just, soon, I hope. I love you so much and I know she will too."

[Y/N] sighed and scooted in closer to him. "Just let me get better first. I can't go snot-nosed to your mother's house."
