After finishing with some paperwork, dad and I ate our favorite snack, peanut butter cookies, that mum had left on the table. "There's still a whole stack of paper we have to do," I whined as I munched on a cookie. Dad sighed as he flipped through them. "I'll call ya if I need ya to write yer signature er somethin'," he said. I nodded, took some cookies, and walked towards the living room. "I can't believe that kid has never taken the test," Peggy said. Luke nodded as he munched on cookies, "Yeah, I mean don't the kids at school talk about it?"
"Hey, just cause I haven't taken the test doesn't mean anything," I said angrily. "Oh, uh. Hey, kid," said Peggy as she looked with disgust at Luke, who had crumbs around his mouth.. She patted the spot next to her and I walked over. "It's just, the school you're going to now. It's for kids with little to no ability," Peggy said as I sat down. "Ability?" I questioned and I munched on another cookie. "Magic, kinda," Peggy answered.
"The schools are always ranked by the ability of their students. Your parents don't have an extremely high ability, but you might, since you're not their biological kid. Your powers might one day hurt someone if you don't learn how to control them, assuming you do have powers," Peggy said, her voice sounding sad. "Has it ever happened befo-", I started to ask. Peggy answered sharply, "Yes," It was as if she knew what I was going to say. Her eyes seemed to water slightly, and she turned away. She whispered, "but it was our fault. We're required to trigger your abilities after the first test."
Luke down looked at the floor, the crumbs on his lips falling, and his face grim. It was as if they were recalling what had happened. "Rubi, I need ya ta sign somethin'," Dad called from the table. I stuffed a cookie in my mouth and left to sign whatever it was I needed to sign.

"Finished!" I yelled. Geeze! My wrist hurts. Luke practically ran to the table. "You're done? At last?" he asked ecstatically. "Yeah," I said as I squirmed, suddenly uncomfortable. He stuffed the paper in his bag and grinned, "Great!" Peggy shuffled over and sat down. "Now, the test begins." "But I just wrote a heck ton," I whined. "And? You're not going to write your answers down, you're actually going to experience it," Peggy said.
Mom walked into the room. "I'm going to watch. If anything happens, I'm stepping in." I noticed something different, there seemed to be a sort of electricity crackling around her. "You don't have to use your ability on us," Luke said calmly. "We promise she won't get hurt." Mom glared, "You'd better not." Dad snored in the background.
"Let's begin," Peggy said. "I'm going to use my ability, Illusion, on you. I am going to show you different scenarios and you will have to choose what to do. Choose what you think is right, not what you think will get you a better score."
Then, everything became swirls. Everything was so confusing, but it suddenly became clear. I was in a hospital. There were people running around. They were scared. They were worried. I grabbed someone as they ran past, "What's happening?" "There's patients dying." They ran off. Well, thanks, that helped.
I followed them through various hallways. "Hey!" I yelled breathless. "May... Maybe I can help?" They stared at me. Everything swirled and mixed, but it seemed to stay the same. Ugh, I'm gonna be sick.

"She doesn't look so good," Luke said as he tapped Peggy's shoulder repeatedly. "What do you mean?" I exclaimed. That's my only daughter, and I would prefer if she didn't get hurt. Peggy mustered a glare towards Luke through the strain of her power. "Sh-e's fin-e. Just nau-seated," Peggy stuttered in exhaustion.
I sighed. Rubicea's face looked green. Her face twisted in confusion and disgust. Worry gripped my insides, just what was she going through?
