Chapter 30: Biology Means Nothing!

      Declan walked into the kitchen at midnight. He grabbed a water bottle from the refrigerator and jumped when he saw Emily sitting at the table, drinking a cup of tea. "Sorry, didn't mean to s are you." Emily apologized. "It's fine." Declan told her and she smiled. "Couldn't sleep?" Emily asked. "Not really." Declan replied. "Me neither." Emily agreed. Declan sat across from her and drank his water. "Why can't you sleep?" Declan asked. "Just a lot on my mind." Emily replied and Declan nodded. "I get that." Declan agreed. "You've haven't been sleeping well since you got here. Why?" Emily asked and Declan sighed. "It was like that before I got here too." Declan replied. Emily knew when it started, but she had to ask anyways. "When did it start?" Emily asked. "Since my mother kidnapped me and killed my father before my very eyes." Declan replied. I sighed as I put my head down. A moment later, I looked back up at him. "I'm sorry all of that happened to you." Emily told him. "It's not your fault." Declan told her and he sighed. "Well." Emily commented. "You don't blame yourself, do you?" Declan asked. "I blame myself for a lot of things, Declan." Emily replied. "This is my father's fault. For seven years, your life was all about making sure I was okay. So thank you, for everything you have done for me." Declan explained and Emily smiled. "You're welcome." Emily commented.
     Emily and Aaron got dressed and walked downstairs. Jack and Declan had just left on the bus. "I think we should put Declan into therapy." Emily told him. "Really?" Aaron asked. "You don't think so?" Emily asked. "No, I'm just surprised you think that." Aaron replied and Emily sighed. "I just don't want him to end up like his parents, not that I think he will, but I also don't want him to end up like me." Emily told him. "That won't be a bad thing." Aaron told him with a smile. But Emily had on a serious face. "Aaron." Emily commented and Aaron frowned. "Okay. I'll look into it once we get back." Aaron told her and Emily nodded. "Thanks, Aaron." Emily commented. Aaron watched her leave and sighed before following her.
     Declan got out of school and walked out of the school building. He noticed Jack walking out of another exit. Jack walked over to Declan. "Do you see them?" Declan asked. "No, but I found my aunts car." Jack replied. "Your Aunt Jessica?" Declan asked and Jack nodded. "Yeah, dad and Emily probably had a case at work." Jack replied. They walked up to the car and got in the back. "How was school?" Jessica asked. "Good." Declan replied. "Are they on a case?" Jack asked. "They are, I'll be watching you until they get back." Jessica replied. "Okay." Declan agreed. "Do you guys want to go and get something to eat?" Jessica asked. "Sure." Jack replied. Jessica nodded as she started the car and left.
     The team has been gone for three days. Jessica just finished doing the dishes and it was early in the morning. The door opened and Jessica walked into the living room and watched as Aaron and Emily walked in. "How was the case?" Jessica asked. "Not our best." Aaron replied and Jessica looked at Emily. "The Unsub disappeared in thin air." Emily told her and she nodded. "You'll get them, you always do." Jessica told them. "Thanks, Jessica." Aaron commented. "Jack and Declan are at school." Jessica told them. "I'll be upstairs." Emily told them as she walked upstairs. "Thanks again." Aaron commented. "No problem." Jessica agreed. "I'll let you know when we leave for our next case." Aaron told her and she nodded. "Sounds good." Jessica agreed. Aaron waved to her as she left and he walked upstairs.
     Aaron walked into his room and saw Emily was changing. She changed to a pair of slacks and a tank top. "How are you feeling?" Aaron asked. "I'm fine, Aaron." Emily replied. "You can take some time off, if you want." Aaron told her and she just gave him a look. "No." Emily told him and he laughed. "Didn't think so, but I had to give it a try." Aaron told her and she smiled. "I'll be fine, and I refuse to take any time off until maternity leave, which I'm still dreading." Emily told him. "Why?" Aaron asked. "Because I don't like taking time off. I won't know what to do." Emily replied and he smiled. "You'll figure it out, Em. I'm sure you'll like it more then you think." Aaron told her. "We'll see." Emily agreed.
     Emily knocked on Jack's door. "Come in!" Jack called. Emily smiled as she walked in. "Hi." Emily greeted. "Hi." Jack greeted. "How are you?" Emily asked. Sne noticed a picture of Jack' mom on the desk and one his Jack, his mom, and his dad on the wall. "I'm good." Jack replied. "Could we talk?" Emily asked and he nodded. "Yeah." Jack replied as he sat up. Emily sat on the edge of his bed. "You must really miss your mom, huh?" Emily asked. "Yeah." Jack replied. "I know I will never be your mom, but I want you to know that I am here for you, and I care about you." Emily told him and he smiled. "I care about you too, Emily, and I'm glad that you married my dad. I'm glad you're in my life." Jack told her and she smiled. "Me too, Jack. Me too." Emily agreed. Jack hugged Emily and she hugged him back.
     Declan's door was open and Aaron walked up to it. "May I come in?" Aaron asked. He looked up and smiled. "Sure." Declan replied as he sat up. Aaron walked in and sat on a chair that was next to the desk. "I just wanted you to know that Emily wasn't the only one who wanted you to come here. I also adopted you, and I want you to know that I'm here for you." Aaron told him. "Thanks, Aaron. I'm happy that you guys did adopt me." Declan told him and he smiled. "So are we, and you don't have to feel uncomfortable in this house. This is your house too, Declan." Aaron told him. "Thank you." Declan commented. "No problem." Aaron agreed.
