A loud bang jolts me awake, my eyes greeted by the sun piercing through some gaps in the stones surrounding us. I sit up abruptly, my hair sticking to my sweaty face as my eyes flickers to everyone else in the cell. There's four people apart from Kit in here with us, three guys and a girl. As I rub my eyes, I wreck my brain to replay last nights events.
Captured. Trapped. Possible death.
My heart drops as the cell door is reefed open by a Landman, his face peeping into the cell and eyeing us cautiously.
"Victoria wants to see you all, get up," his low voice grumbles unhappily. We all stare at him worriedly, causing his patience to thin.
"I said," he storms into the room and grabs the girl off the floor by her hair. I watch in terror as he lifts her up while she screams, two other guys standing up to help her.
"Get up!" He screams into her face before turning around to glare at us all. I scramble to my feet and squeeze my hands while the girl sobs into hers. The Landman leaves the room almost instantly, leading us out of our cell and towards Victoria's tent. The girl walks infront of me and I take this as my chance to talk to her.
"Hey," I introduce soothingly, placing a tender hand on the red flannel fabric that covers her shoulder. She slows down and turns to look at me, her large blue eyes dull but scared. I can't help but smile at her innocence, her thin lips turned down into a pout as streaks of tears stain her pale skin.
"I'm Lucy," I thrust my hand into her direction to which she stares at, obviously surprised at my forewardness. We continue to walk after she shakes my hand, the tent getting bigger with every step.
"I'm Sarah," she replies, flicking her blonde bangs out of her eyes towards the back of her long ponytail. One of the boys who stood up when Sarah was being attacked in the cell drops back from infront to stand next to her, shooting her a sympathetic glance. He's also got blonde hair, but large brown eyes, which flicker to me threateningly.
"Who's this sis," he asks bluntly, his eyes narrowing in my direction. I frown at him, kind of annoyed at his behaviour. He looks younger than me, probably even younger than Sarah.
"I'm Lucy, I was just saying hi to Sarah," she smiles at her brother in a "it's okay" way before we reach the entrance of the tent. I take a deep breath and leave Sarah's side for Kit, who smiles weakly once I join him.
"Victoria, the prisoners," the Landman interrupts, lowering the tridant looking stick to the ground. She emerges from behind the draping strings of beads that lead into her room, her eyes scanning the entire tent before landing on us. Her lips turn up into a smirk before she stalks towards us, the beads sliding off of her and back into place.
"You all look so scared," she giggles, stopping next to her chair. She lifts a delicate hand to it and rubs the fabric as she continues.
"You are all going to perform tasks around my city from now on," she sighs, putting all of her weight onto one leg. She's wearing a different dress from when I first saw her. A grey silky cloth clings to her, stopping mid way down her thigh. It's strapless, but the furry cape that falls from her shoulders make up for it. Her toes are wedged to a point in thick black heels.
I felt Kit tense up next to me, not liking the sound of that.
"No."
Victoria raises an eyebrow.
"No?" My eyes dart to her fingers that tap impatiently on the velvet of her chair, the black paint on her nails glistening in the reflection of the doorway.
"You can capture us when we weren't doing anything a part from walking through your territory and force us to act as slaves. We have places to go, and time is limited," my heart starts racing as Kit seethes at her, his hands balling into fists.
