The sound of early birds and running water is present around me as the sun invades my eyes and face. My back and shoulders are stiff from the awkward position I'm in, curled up on the mossy grass with a thin blanket providing minimum warmth. Barely audible whispers spew from behind me and I open my eyes, glad I wasn't facing the fire when I fell asleep late last night. The forest isn't anywhere near as scary during the day, in fact, it's rather refreshing.

"Kit still hasn't woken up but his bite has healed significantly," I tune in on Henry's voice, my heart fluttering at knowing that Kit should be okay. I pretend to have just woken up, rolling over with squinting eyes before slowly opening them, taking in everyone apart from Kit surrounding the dying fire. The thick vertical stream of smoke trails towards the sky as the molten coals lose their heat.

"Good morning Lucy, how'd you sleep?" Sarah greets warmly, standing up and handing me a silver cup. It's warm in my hands as I take it from her, sitting up and wrapping the blanket around my body. I thank her which sends her back to her seat next to Gale. Kit lays still on the table he was placed on last night and I take a sip while still looking at him, longingly.

"Now that Lucy's awake we should get going, we only have one vaccine left and that isn't enough if one of us was to get bit," Henry suggests as he points to Kit, which makes me a little angry. Says the one who was so cheery when Kit was bit in the first place.

"Henry's right, grab your stuff we are leaving in fifteen minutes," Gale orders as he stands, slinging his gun from his back to his front, grabbing a hold of it before picking up some bags to carry to the car. Sarah follows suite as well as William and Henry, pouring their coffee into the coal. I go to stand up but stop when a shadow appears over me, causing me to look up with slitted eyes.

"Need some help getting up gorgeous?" He smirks with an outstretched hand. I visibly gag and push myself up off the grass, snatching my blanket before storming back to the car with my bag. He laughs and chases up to me with his stuff, making small talk.

"You drool in your sleep."

"Why were you watching me sleep?" I ask with a raised eyebrow, moving around him when he stops infront of me.

"I wasn't until I heard you fart," he chuckles, making me skid to a stop on the gravel. My face is bright red as he doesn't say "sike" like I was hoping.

"Come on," he continues, throwing his bag into the back before taking my stuff and doing the same, turning to me. He looks at the toilet block and I follow his gaze, my nose scrunching up at his wordless suggestion.

"You're disgusting." I side step him and climb into the back of the van, buckling myself into the seat while he stands outside.

"Cameron, help me grab Kit," Gale says loudly causing Cameron to tear his eyes from me, doing as he's told. I huff and look opposite to me, seeing Sarah staring after them.

"Sarah?" I ask worriedly, "don't tell me you like Cameron, he's a jerk," I groan, dragging a hand down my face. She flushes red and tears her eyes off of them, shaking her head sheepishly. William is speaking to Henry outside the van and I take this as my time to investigate.

"No?" She nods again and I frown before the realisation dawns on me.

"Gerkins?" She snaps her head up and begs me with open eyes to shush. I feign the mouth locking gesture and smile with my lips in my mouth, causing her to laugh softly. Kit is lifted into the back of the van and put next to me, his swaying head laying in my lap. His eyes open briefly and waver all over the place before settling on me, where I smile. He smiles back this time with a proper, sleepy smile, causing the pain from last night to subside.
