Battle Scars and Band-aids

Many know why their country came to be
Many know why their country fell
But few know how their country came to be
Few know what happened when their country came to be.
Few know what happened when their country fell.
Those who have been there,
Seen with their own eyes,
Heard with their own ears,
Felt with their own hearts,
They may have battle scars.
They may not.
They may not have band-aids
They may have band-aids.
But what I know,
And what few know,
Is you can't cover you're past,
you can't run from your past,
You can't hide the proof of trauma
With a band-aid.
But, you can show it.
You can be proud.
Because that battle scar,
Marks the end of the past,
And the start of something new.
Because that battle scar,
Shows you made it.
You did it.
You came to an obstacle,
And you overcame it.
When the pressure was high,
And the hope was low,
You stuck through the darkness.
You became, your own light.
You became the hero of your home.
You became a hero to your country.
You became a hero.
A legend.
You became a small child's hero.
You became an adult with no hope's hero.
You showed them hope.
You showed them,
That no matter what comes,
No matter how hard,
No matter how tough,
No matter how hopeless it seems,
You can make it.
You can make it to the other side,
You can have hope,
You can.
Battle scars and band-aids are very different things.
