"Tyler." She stated, quiet at first, then repeating it, in a desperate scream. She broke off in a sprint, following her brothers yells.
"No no no no no. He's gonna be okay, he's got to be." She whispered to herself, trying to hold the dam that held her river of tears back. Alexia cried out when she caught sight of him.
Her brother. A man who seemed like he could never be defeated. Tyler Lake. Standing with his hands clutching his chest, where it seemed like an invisible blade had pieced him. Deans hand closed around her forearm, in an attempt to stop her from running at her brother, but one hard yank was enough to push away from him. Lex reached him just as he fell to his knees with a thud.
Hardly thinking, the girl helped her brother to lay on his back, then pressed her hands to the cavity in his chest. Bloodied fingers rested on top of her pale hands, a small voice causing her to change her gaze to his face.
"Alexia..." Tyler struggled, "It's, it's not worth it.." His voice was shaky and he stuttered, his eyes showing the pain he felt when they met his sisters.
"No. No Tyler don't you say those things... We're gonna get through this, like we always do." Lex choked, tears falling from her cheeks.
The movement looked like it pained him, but Tyler slowly pulled his sisters hands away from the gash. With his right, he snapped the golden charm from his neck, pressing it into his sisters palm then holding it there. His left found it's place on the side of her face.
"You can let me go, Lexi. It's okay, you'll be okay." He breathed softly, using the last of his energy to summon a small smile. Alexia could only watch as the light faded from his eyes and his hands went slack.
"No... NO!" She let out a strangled sob, throwing herself across his torso. With an ear pressed against his chest and no heartbeat she knew it was true.
"No!" The girl screamed against his chest over and over, calling his name and shaking his shoulders as I'd she expected him to wake up
She left like she had been laying on him for only a few seconds, but in her heart she knew it had been minutes. Sam's hands reached around from behind her, and Lex could only fear what he would do next. He grabbed her wrists, pulling her fingers from where she had held her brother so tightly. The girl screamed and lashing out, trying to pull away. He wrapped his arms tightly around her middle, restraining her arms against her. She knew that Sam was strong, but not that he could lift a 120 pound girl while she's kicking, thrashing, and screaming. The man only gripped tighter, half carrying and half dragging the grief-ridden girl to the next room.
As soon his grip slackened a bit, Alexia sprung free. Using the momentum of her spin, she threw her fist to his face. It was a little difficult, considering he was a foot taller, but she still managed to hit the side of his jaw. Sam flinched a little, his hands curling into fists before he relaxed them again.
"Why weren't you with him!?" She screamed, hitting him again.
"You shouldn't have let him go off on his own!!" Her foot flew through the air, hitting him in the gut.
With two more punches to his face she shouted again. "I trusted you!"
"You're a monster!" An aggression that was not like Alexia emerged in the way that she shoved Sam to his knees, landing an easy blow across his cheek.
"It's your fault!!!" The girl sobbed, her voice becoming hoarse but still shouting as she pounded her fists at anywhere she could reach. Punch after punch bloodied him and also her knuckles. Sam looked like he had enough, bruises and cuts covered his face and torso. Lex also looked exhausted, collapsing onto the cement a few feet away from the beaten Sam. Her face was in her hands and quiet, dry sobs could be heard.
Wincing a bit, Sam gathered the energy to move, crawling over to her. He cautiously wrapped one arm around the crying girl, and once he saw that she did not react badly, he continued. His arms pulled her in to his own chest, and she let him. Her legs splayed out on the ground behind her and she leaned into Sam, grateful for his warmth.
"You're gonna be okay."
"I'm sorry." She said softly into the fabric of his shirt, staining it with tears. He whispered back.
"Don't be."
"Thank you"
