After the siblings had gotten a little settled in their motel room, Tyler suggested that they go get something to eat. Remembering the cafe they passed on the way in, Alexia nodded.
"Sure, just let me get changed first. You should to, these clothes are still dirty from the last hunt." She pointed out, zipping open her duffel bag. Honestly, she didn't really care if her brother saw her naked, so she closed the window and got changed on the bed. She ended up wearing her favourite pair of jeans, which hugged her skin just right, and a gray tank top that would look good under her motorcycle jacket, and the only pair of shoes she had, black converse sneakers. Tyler had chosen his dark washed jeans, a tee shirt with a band logo so worn out you couldn't even tell what it was, and a leather jacket that looked like his sisters.
He stepped over to the duffel where the sibling kept the weapons that they didn't hide in the van. Alexia waited next to the bed for him to hand her a pistol, which she tucked in the back of her jeans, where it would be hidden by the bulk of the jacket, and a flask of holy water. She tucked the flask in the inside pocket of her jacket as her brother grabbed his own pistol and flask. "Let's go, I'm starving." He smiled as he opened the door, making sure to grab his wallet before the Lakes left the room.
A bell chimed as they entered the cafe, drawing some attention from the workers. Taking a look around the cafe before sitting down at a table near the door, Lex recognized the two men that they had encountered when they were checking in. But now, she could see them better. They both gave off the impression of guys who went to the gym three times a week, but seemed to be in too deep of a conversation to be dumb jocks. One had hair too long, and must've been at least a foot taller than me. The other one looked like he was trying too hard to be cool, and was eating like a pig. She couldn't help but roll her eyes before ordering a grilled chicken salad. Tyler, on the other hand, ordered a burger and fries.
"How do you live off that stuff?" Alexia cringed as he indulged in the junk food.
"How do you not?" He responded, before nodding to her salad. "All you eat is rabbit food, I don't know how you do it."
"Shut up and do your research." She urged him, a light tone in her voice. Tyler surrendered and starting searching the weather patterns on his laptop. Soon, Alexia was done her salad, and started gathering up her things.
"I'm gonna head to the library, look for missing persons cases, try to figure out how many we're dealing with." She notified her brother, leaning over the table. "I'll call you if I find anything important," the young woman paused before adding on. "I want you to keep an eye on those two, I got a bad feeling about them." Making sure to not look suspicious, she gave him a smile and a cute wave as she left the cafe, heading for the local library.
Alexia couldn't tell how long she had been in the library, but she had finally composed a list of missing person cases from the last month. Running her fingers through her short hair and giving a slight sigh, she pulled out her phone, and clicked on her brothers contact.
"Hey, Ty. So there haven't been any missing people in this town for the last two years, until the beginning of last month."
"What a coincidence, that's when the lightning storms started." He replied sarcastically.
"How many are we looking at that?" He added a little more quietly, and Lex could hear the background noise of the cafe. She hesitated for a moment, before answering.
"Twelve."
"Twelve?!"
"Twelve. Most reports are saying that they were last seen leaving the house after sundown, times ranging from 9 pm to 1 am, and they never came home." Alexia sifted through the reports, unaware of someone standing only a few feet away.
"So?"
"Demons, most likely. It'd explain the storms."
"Alright, well, see if you can get some more info on the victims, I'll meet you back at the motel."
"Okay, see ya."
"See ya."
There was a beeping to let her know that Tyler had hung up, and she shoved the phone back in her pocket. An arm suddenly was gripped around her middle, holding her arms in and pulling her back. She tried to call out but she found her mouth covered. Whoever had grabbed her was dragging her to the back door, and suddenly they were in a dark alley. Her first thought was that the kidnapper was a demon, so she kicked the shin of the attacker, hard. This caused the grip to slack slightly, and Alexia took the chance to pull away. The girl reached for her gun, but found her hand gripping at empty air. Whoever had grabbed her was very skilled, she decided. That's when she recognized him, and her moment of shock allowed him to take the advantage. Pushing her back against the brick wall of the library, he covered her mouth once again. The man from the hotel, the tall one with the long hair, was pinning her. Dammit, how can a giant be so stealthy?
"Who are you?!" He growled, his voice gruff. Unfortunately, Lex couldn't talk with a hand clamped over her mouth, so he removed it and pressed his forearm against her throat, forcing her chin up. Instead of responding, she looked over him. A anti-possession symbol was tattooed on his chest, the same one that she had at the nape of her neck. In the fight, his jacket was displaced, revealing that he had his gun as well as her own. He must've been frustrated with Alexia not answering, because she could feel the pressure on her throat increase.
"I'm not gonna tell you jack shit." The young woman narrowed her hazel eyes, glowering at him. To her, the height and weight difference didn't matter, however, the fact that he was armed and she wasn't was a bit of a problem. The man was getting more and more angered, his brown eyes trying to be intimidating but instead reminding her of an angry puppy dog.
"I'm not afraid of you." Alexia spoke with a steady voice, making herself look calm.
"You should be." He said quietly, raising his hand to above her head. She new what was going to happen next, and all she could do was brace herself for the blow that would inevitably knock her out. Long story short, she wasn't awake anymore.
