After 8 years

“Yes, yes. I am so sorry but I’ll be there in a few.”

It was bright and sunny. Katherine Humphry is rushing to go to Casey’s house. She promised she would be there by 11: 30 but she was half an hour late. She started to run but she passed by the Notre Dame statue. It reminded her of someone. But then,

“Ow!” Katherine screamed. She bumped into someone and all of her books fell down.

“I am so, so sorry. I didn’t see you.” The tall guy said He started picking up her books but a bookmark fell down. The handwriting-it reminded him of someone.

“If it all falls apart, I will know deep in my heart, the only dream that mattered had come true. In this life, I was loved by you”

He looked up but Katherine already knew from his voice. It was Scott Clark. They both froze, still gazing at each other. Memories started to flashback. Katherine wanted to talk but didn’t know what to say. Again, the air stood still. The silence was too loud.  Katherine was trembling. For her, Scott was her past. The past that couldn’t, wouldn’t and will never be her present. In her heart, Scott had a long, long time ago. Finally, Scott made the first move.

“K-Katherine? How are you?” Scott chocked.

Her heart started to beat fast but at the same time she was trying to calm herself down. So Katherine took a deep breath and said

“When someone asks ‘How are you?’, they really don’t expect an answer.”

Scott smiled at her. She was still the same girl she met 5 years ago. “Hey, you caught me” He said. Katherine smiled back and embraced him. Scott hugged Katherine back for a long time. She breathe him in, savoring the moment. It was probably the best feeling ever.

“I missed you.” Scott said,

Katherine smiled,

“I missed you too.”

“Without another word, they came together, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. And he put his arms around her, drawing her close. They held each other tightly, making it real for them, letting the fourteen years of separation dissolve in the deepening twilight” (The Notebook)
