"How long has it been doctor?" I heard in a sad almost recognizable hushed voice. "Almost 3 weeks," he said sincerely. I could hear Shuffled feet stepping closer to me, then I felt something cold, like someone's hand touch the top of my hand, my eyes shot open and I felt the air had being exhaled out of my lungs with a loud gasp. I started to have a panic attack seeing that I was in the hospital, for what I wasn't sure yet. I looked around the room slowly until my eyes landed on a woman standing wide eyed, close to my bed. My eyes then shifted to the doctor that was speaking to me, but I hadn't noticed until I looked at him. "Victoria" the doctor said my name calmly. For some reason it was like I had just got pulled out of a trance when I heard my name. "Victoria... can you hear me?" Asked the doctor concerned "I'm doctor Wilson." He stated with a smile. I nodded my head to him. "Can you tell me why you're here?" He asked still speaking calmly. I tried to speak but I could feel how dry throat was and only a faint sound came from my mouth. He turned around sticking his head out of the door and spoke to what I could only think is his nurse. "Go get a cup of water please" he spoke urgently. He turned around and walked beside the bed before bending down and opening a drawer from the cabinet. He stood up with a blood pressure cup, grabbed my arm, and began to slip it up my arm when the nurse walked in. She handed me the cup of water and I could barely bring it up to my mouth. My attention turned to the doctor after he put his cold stethoscope above my heart on my chest. A minute goes by and I had finally finished the small cup of water and handed it back to the nurse. The doctor begins to take the blood pressure cup off my arm and asked me the same as before, "Can you tell me why you're here Victoria?" I closed my eyes trying to think about what happened to me, when it all came back in a flood. Me quitting my job, the fence, being yanked out of my car window, I shuddered from the chills that shot down my spine. I paused for a moment before I spoke. "Yes, yes I remember everything... I'm here because I got into a wreck," I said with and cracked, hoarse voice. The tears began to bubble up from frustration that I had been so reckless. "Okay, good no memory loss," he nodded towards the nurse. "You're blood pressure is kind of high but probably because you're in shock right now. Are you in pain anywhere?" I nodded and pointed towards my head. It felt like I had a cluster behind my nose and eyes. "Go set up the morphine drip," the doctor spoke to the nurse calmly. I watched as she rushed off to go get the meds when the doctor spoke again. "You're quite the fighter." His voice sounded playful but serious. "Why's that?" I said inquizatively. "You hit your head pretty bad when you wrecked." He continued giving me time to sink in the information he was telling me. "You fractured both your brow bones, broke your nose is two places and you split the top of your forehead open, which took 9 stitches," My eyes widened in disbelief as to what I just heard. I cringed at the way I must have looked. He gave me time to think before be spoke again slowly, "You've also been in a coma for three weeks now Victoria, you're very lucky to not have brain damage." He stated in a serious tone. I looked up at him in disbelief, I'm honestly a bit disappointed that I lived through that. I didnt want to deal with my shitty little life anymore. I sat there quietly thinking to my self. "That's why I'm here sissy." A voice spoke suddenly from the corner, I had jumped at the unfamiliar voice that cut the silence floating around the room . I looked at her trying to figure out how I knew her. "You'll be free to go, probably tonight if you'd like." the doctor interrupted my thoughts as he left the room. I pondered who she might have been. Then it hit me 'sissy'. "Clarice!" My mouth hung open as she walked towards me. I haven't seen or spoken to her since she left us, I couldn't have talked to her much anyways even if I wanted to, I was only 6 when she left, I'm now 21. Tears appeared in her eyes as she stood next to the bed. "I'm glad you're okay and awake now," she spoke with happy tears running down her smile. "How did you find me?" I asked confused. "I've been looking for you for many years..." ignoring my question, she smiled and I could see tears swell up in her eyes. "Mother and father disowned me and cut off all connections." She stumbled through her words with tears. I sat there in confusion and pain. "Why did you leave?" I asked quietly. Silence bounced around the room for a minute. Angry tears began to swell up "YOU LEFT ME THERE WITH THEM!!" I screamed only for her to flinch. "I'm s-sorry Victoria, I had no other choice." She began crying hysterically. She looked as if she was rewatching an old memory. Then she spoke with an intense sadness, "I had to leave.. I.." she choked on tears. "The night I left, I had come home late from work to find the house was destroyed basically, it looked like someone had broke in, but nothing was taken. I immediately tried to find you, but you were nowhere in sight, and I had looked everywhere." She looked hurt by telling me this but she slowly continued. "I had already called the police when I heard a loud thud from the attic. I rushed up there tripping over many beer cans and liquor bottles. I busted the door open and I saw you.." she paused closing her eyes for a moment, "...sitting in the corner of the room, you had blood all over you and you looked dead." She had a sad tint in her eyes. "I rushed over to you, but the second I lifted your head I was pulled away from you by the back of my hair. I looked up only to find our extreamly drunk father. He beat the hell out of me until he thought I could barely move... he started to walk towards you and I could hear him unzip his pants." She started to sob uncontrollably as she stood up and turn her back towards me as if she couldn't bear to look me in the eyes. "He was going to rape you s-so I had save you no matter what, I looked around the room and saw a broken Jack Daniel's bottle on the floor next to me. I barley picked myself up and attempted to run to the bottle, but he heard me as I picked it up. Before I could barely get myself turned around he charged at me and I stabbed him in his left shoulder. That's when I heard the police sirens, so I grabbed you up and ran like hell down the stairs and into the street." She had stopped crying now and was back beside me and she just held my hand. "Why don't I remember what?" I asked almost suspicious. "You were only 6 I'm not surprised that you don't remember honestly." She retorted quickly. "Well I did hit my head pretty hard" I joked to end the awkwardness and we both smiled a little. It was difficult to believe everything that's happened. I was lost in thought about everything when my sister spoke through the silence pulling me out of my thoughts. "So tell me what's your life like?" She said enthusiastically. "Well, um.." I pondered It saddened me to think my life was basically meaningless. "What about a job or a boyfriend? And where is your apartment at?" She asked overly interested, "I dont have a boyfriend and I quit my job right before I had the wreck, now my car is totaled, and I could barely afford my little apartment before I decided to quit." I started to tear up as I realized, I literally have nothing to live for anymore at this moment. After this realization a thought came to me that I questioned before. "How did you find me?" I asked slow and confused. "Well, um," she started kind of taken back by the question, almost as if she wasnt ready for it. "I recently been traveling for work alot, and I just happened to stay in a hotel that was in your town. I'd seen in the newspaper that 'Victoria Shepherd age 21' had crashed on Hw59, it matched your description perfectly. I thought what are the odds it would be you, and it was!" She spoke quickly, almost suspiciously as if she would've slowed down I'd think she was lying. I let those suspicious go though, I haven't seen or spoken to her in years, I couldn't just judge her off the first time talking again. As I was about to ask her what her line of work was she interrupted, "Come live with me!" Almost yelling as she stood up excitedly. My eyes widened at her request. I know we're sister but we honestly dont know each other that well. I think my face told her what I was thinking when she spoke again, "I know I haven't been in you're life like I should have been, but you just told me you basically lost everything. Let me make up for lost time please," she begged. I could see she was desperate for a relationship with me. "Where do you even live? How am I supposed to get money to," she interrupted again quickly "Dont worry about money! Let me take care of everything sissy!" She was set on getting me to live with her. She continued answering my first question "It might seem weird, but I don't actually live in America... my home resides in the lovely country of Ireland!" she said with a proud smile. "Wow! That's.. well amazing" I let out a little laugh with disbelief. It had seemed that I was in a dream of some sort. I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't still in a coma. "Weeell what do ya say?!" She asked excitedly as she jumped up and down lightly. I thought about it hesitantly, but I did lose everything maybe a fresh start is what I need. "Okay... I'll do it, I'll come live with you." She smiled with wide eyes. "We better get you out of here then hmm" she said with happiness as she leaves the room to go get me checked out of here. I hope this is right choice.
