Victoria's heart was frozen with fear and shock. It couldn't be the Xavier she thought it was. He was too real, too...human. Flashes of memories began to overtake her mind, and her body jolted as she caught his lips move into a smile. She closed her eyes for a moment, ignoring the outrageous whispers around her.
"He couldn't be looking at Victoria Steel, could he?"
"That bitch is a no and he is such a yes. Maybe he got stage fright and is looking at the wall behind her!"
Jumping up from her seat, she moved towards the exit of the gymnasium. Without as much of a glance back, she ignored the shouts of teachers calling after her and did not care if she got into trouble for it later. She needed head space to think, and the best place to do that was the restroom. Making her way through the hallways, she bust in through the door and plopped herself down into one of the stalls. She tried not to hypervinilate.
Maybe she was overreacting. It could have been a school prank played on her because of all the gossip she had written down. She knew that would have made no sense, especially the way his blue eyes stared into her very own. He knew who she was and she knew him. What she couldn't understand was: How. How had he gotten into human form? She had never seen him like this, only as a doll. She remembered briefly how he could talk, and the way his eyebrows shot up when she made a joke he thought was funny. Her parents never liked the doll.
They would argue consistently about how they needed to get rid of it, how it gave them a bad feeling of not knowing where it came from. They didn't think that Victoria was listening, but maybe they were right. She was a child at the time, so she never thought twice about the doll being alive. She would tell her parents and they would laugh, saying that it was most likely a moveable doll to hide how uncomfortable they were.
Becoming still, she also thought back to how many bathroom trips she had taken him on. She was so attached to the thing she had taken him in the bath! Her cheeks inflamed, she couldn't hold it in anymore. She began breathing heavily, her fists tightening next to her sides. If this male really was who she thought he was, she would never face him. There was too many embarrassing moments, things she had whispered into his ear. It just was not possible that was her old doll. He was human, for gosh sakes. What cruel prank was the world playing on her now?
She knew she couldn't go home. Both of her parents were at work, and if she told them she was sick they would be pissed. They wouldn't buy it anyway, knowing that she was faking it due to school. They would think it would be because of the bullying and would never believe the truth. How would you even start with that line?
Mom and Dad, the doll you threw away from my childhood has come back to haunt me. He's at my school and is a student there now.
She gave a short, humorless laugh. Putting her head in her hands, she tried to get her breathing under control and think of better ideas. Maybe she would be lucky and he would not be in any advanced classes with her? She was in only the best of the best, which knocked down a bit of criticism time from her peers but not much. She still had lunch to deal with everyone, and breaks in between her classes. That was when she would most likely see him. Her thoughts became morbid as she wondered what he wanted with her in the first place.
He would have been pissed to be thrown away. That wouldn't have been Victoria's fault, though. Was he here for her Father? Another thought occured to her.
There were no wings. How was he hiding them? The more questions popped into her head, the less it made sense. Was this what he could never tell her as a child? The bell rang, indicating the gym was going to be emptied soon and girls would be storming the bathrooms to check on their makeup. She took a deep breath and got up shakily. She needed to get a grip on herself. The new kids were always the shiny new toy.
With her luck, the girls would be keeping him so busy he wouldn't be able to find her. She had no doubt he would be searching the school. She remembered his stare, the way he had looked. His smile almost seemed sinister.
She had to steady herself against the wall so she wouldn't fall down. Was he here to kill her? Her stomach lurched, and she was glad she hadn't had time for breakfast that morning. She heard the door open and a pause. She silently swore and flushed the toilet, hoping they wouldn't bother her.
Victoria gave it a beat before opening the stall door. Without worrying about who it was, she rushed out into the hallway and pulled out her schedule. The first class of the day was AP Chemistry. She groaned and began making her way there, keeping her head down. It didn't matter. She could feel the stares from a mile away, knowing they were all talking about how the freak ran out on the hot new guy. She wasn't sure, but she thought she heard someone yelling her name from behind her. A male's voice.
"Victoria! Vic!"
It became more apparent, and she began walking faster. Her heart pounded as she saw the door come into view. Only a few more seconds...the first bell rang as she touched the doorknob. She sighed in relief when the voice disappeared and she slipped inside.
Only...the rest of the day to go, she thought to herself miserably.
