You stood up slowly. Your back ached from what had become normal nighttime activities, so you stretched and let your joints pop. A yawn, a sigh, and then shuffling into some dirty clothing—all a recipe for waking up alone. You rattled the doorknob only to find it was locked. You weren't surprised, though, the Queen tended to lock you in if she didn't know what to do with you.

Days had been passing quickly. It was all a crazy blur of love and romance and trying very hard to forget everything. You were beginning to realize that trying to erase things from your mind was an impossible task. If you train your brain to forget something, it wants to forget other things too.

You were constantly disoriented.

It was a more pleasure-filled life than anything you had ever expected, which, of course, was very odd considering the circumstances. Even so, you felt rotten to your core. Your mother was probably dead now, wasn't she? Had you already thought about this? Yes, she was probably dead, you decided. Strange how you couldn't truly convince yourself of that—somehow you still believed you'd see her one day.

It would be difficult to go see your mother when you're locked in Emeline's room. You kneeled on the carpet in front of her door because it felt right. You waited for her to return.

You noticed your reflection in a mirror and turned to stare at her. Her. That girl in the mirror you've never met. When you looked at her face for long enough it stopped being a face. You saw the bruises on her neck, and you traced your fingers over them. You always liked the way bruises looked over your skin, admittedly. The colors were so interesting and new, and if they were born of love then why not marvel at their beauty?

You looked at your reflection. Who were you? You laughed a little bit at yourself as you let your fingers dance on the carpet. All you ever did these days was wait. You felt like more of a real human with Ashe, surprisingly, in that you could feel yourself having a personality. You truly loved Emeline, though. Was it right to compare the two of them?

The door opened. Every single thought you were thinking flew from your mind as you jumped excitedly. "Emeline!" you laughed as you gave her a hug. Even if you were only alone for a little bit it made you want them more. Anything to be away from your excruciating thoughts. "I missed you," you sighed happily as you held her close. She chuckled and returned the embrace. She liked how you were turning out.

"Did you miss me, Kitten?" She asked, her voice like an angel. You nodded vigorously; Of course I did! "I missed you too," She nodded. "Let me walk you to your room so you can get changed and then Ashe will walk you back when you're done. Don't leave your room until he comes to get you, alright?"

You nodded, of course. This had become the way things worked. It had only started a few days ago, but you were already used to the escorts. Ashe was more lenient about it, but Emeline truly didn't want any moment of danger to befall you.

And when she dropped you off at your room with a small kiss, you remembered everything you had felt before she had arrived.

Right, you were rotting inside. Maybe the rot only existed when you were alone? If that was the case, then you needed to stay with them as much as possible. If you had the energy to, you'd laugh at how ridiculous you were being.

You slipped out of your dirty dress and searched your wardrobe for anything clean. You jolted when the door opened, your eyes darting to the intruder.
