A/N

I've changed the plot of this story so many times that after two years of not writing, I get surprised and even excited when I read my own drafts. I am not rewriting, its a whole new book at this point.

But I hope you're enjoying. Don't refrain yourself from commenting. I absolutely love it when you guys engage through comments. Let me know what you think about the whole story! Is it going slow? Do you want me to pace up?

Lastly, thanks for reading and giving this book a chance.

REGINA'S P.O.V

Over the years of uncertainty, I had grown accustomed to 'go with the flow' way of life. I used to think and plan a lot about my future but after being failed by life over and over again, I had stopped thinking about it and instead, decided to take every blow of the present with everything I had.

I looked around Asher's house. This was just another blow of life. No biggie.

Asher didn't come out of his study again. Instead I noticed that he was visited by a lot of people, most of them looked suspicious in the way they carried their selves. Most of them were guarded by men and I noticed that the guards I had seen outside weren't the only ones here but there were some more on the back and some roaming around the house. They were all armed.

My job description wasn't unexpected. I was supposed to mop the floors, dust around the house and serve food when it had been cooked. I had been a waitress in a café for a long time and doing over time was normal for me so I had the stamina to do all the mopping and standing on my feet the whole day. Exertion wasn't a problem for me, the only problem was the attire. I was wearing pants.

and heels.

The apparent head of the staff named Hailey said that we'll get our uniforms in a few days. Right now, I was sitting inside the kitchen because all the cleaning had been done and only dinner was left to be served, after which I was supposed to go home and pack everything so I could shift here. I had to tell Ana about this.

Meanwhile, I thought about what I would do in coming months. I had to work till I got my degree and then, I'd apply somewhere else. Until then, I was stuck here.

The dinner was almost ready. I could smell the roasted fowls and baked bread. I didn't know what was in the menu but it smelled delicious. After we had set up the dinner, Hailey asked us to go wait inside till Asher and his company were done eating. There were about five people that I had seen entering his study and it had been four hours since then. What were they doing inside for so long?

Am I missing out on an orgy?

It was 10 already and my eyes were drooping. Everything suddenly began to annoy me. I wanted to go back and sleep. The whole house, the kitchen, Hailey, the chicken on the counter was frustrating me. I had called Ana already to let her know that I would be late. I got so aggravated at the thought of being out since 7 in the morning that it pushed me to the verge of crying. My head began hurting. It was all because of the damn sleeplessness. I was also a bit worried about my ride back home because it was late and I knew I wouldn't be able to find any taxi or bus.

When Asher and his friends were gone, Hailey asked us to go out and get it all cleaned up. It took me 30 more minutes to get all of it done. I told Hailey that I was calling an Uber while the other two girls decided to stay in the quarters. For a moment, I wanted to do the same, but the thought of Ana being alone at home made me call the Uber.

It was for the first time, that I was taking an Uber at this time of the night. Uber, anytime after 7, gives me creeps. Although nothing has happened to me till date but it just makes me extra attentive about everything.

It was 10 minutes away so I went outside the house, towards the gates, so I would wait there but the car arrived as soon as I reached the gates.

I was about to go outside when I heard one of the guards, "Oi, that's an Uber."

"Yeah?" I answered quizzically.

"It doesn't look safe." The other guard said and I almost smiled.

"Aw, so cute. You worried about me, eh?" I cooed jokingly.

"I wouldn't care if you go out and get run over by a truck." he said and looked away.

"Douchebag." I spat and went inside the car. The driver was young. I had seen his profile beforehand and he seemed decent.

He confirmed the location without turning back and roared the engine back to life. The fact that he just turned the air conditioner on made me mad. Why can't they just turn it on a bit earlier when they're waiting? I asked him to take a shorter route after which he didn't say anything.

Halfway through the ride, he turned the air conditioner off and opened the windows. Humid air began hitting my face violently as he was driving fast and the road was quiet. I got angry because this wasn't how it worked,

"Can you please shut the windows and turn the AC back on?" I was calm yet but he didn't seem to listen.

"Hello?!" I called out, "I said something?!"

He still didn't respond and I got pissed. Just then I noticed that he was taking longer route when I had specifically asked him to take the shorter one.

"Hey? I asked you to go by Martin Street. Why are you taking the longer route?" I had just finished saying when the car halted, almost jerking me out of the seat. What happened next was in a spur of moment. I couldn't fathom why it happened. The driver opened his door and came out. The look on his face was frightening and I couldn't process what he wanted. He opened my side of the door, grabbed my arm and threw me out of the car against the footpath. My sides hit it and I felt an immense pain surging through my whole body. I hadn't recovered from the impact when instantly, I felt a sting of pain on my right cheek where he had punched me twice. My vision blurred and a whimper left my lips.

He had thrown my bag and phone at me which fell at my feet. By now, I had realize what could happen to me.

I had a knife and pepper spray inside my bag. All I had to do was reach it but I couldn't budge. The man crouched in front of me and looking straight in my eyes, he said "Don't forget who you belong to."

Chills went through my spine and I had stopped breathing not wanting to anticipate his next move. He smiled and I felt myself move back.

"Who are you?" I had managed to say but he got up and went back to the car.

I ignored the pain and dragged myself towards my bag but then I heard the engine starting and his car sprinting away.

I was confused and in pain but the fear was insurmountable.

I couldn't comprehend the situation. I was assaulted by a total stranger as if I had done something wrong to him. I had never seen this guy in my entire life, yet I was lying on the road with my guts in pain. I couldn't help noticing that the guy had a slight resemblance to the person in Uber profile but now I was sure that this wasn't the same person. The car, however, was the same.

Who did I belong to? What did he mean?

I tasted blood in my mouth and that made me bring my fingers towards my lip. My lip was cut too. I kept dragging myself and reached my phone, just to see it broken.

I tried turning it on but it never worked. I wanted to cry. I wanted to scream. So that's what I did. I cried "help", but I knew no one would listen. It was a quiet road with no shops on the side and no other car driving.

A phonebooth must be somewhere near, I just needed to move on until I found help. I tried getting up and succeeded. I limped towards my bag when I saw headlights flashing. A car was coming. I was half hopeful and half terrified. It could be anyone; another aggressive stranger and I didn't have the energy to fight. I was scared to hell.

I scurried myself up but refrained from asking for a lift or help. The car stopped near me anyway and the person rolled down the window. I heard a familiar voice,

"Regina! what are you doing here?!"
