~Alex~

"Alex, are you ok?"

I groggily opened my eyes, making some weird incoherent noises that barely resembled a sentence. I looked around to see john crouched next to me and Jefferson walking around like he was trying to solve a murder.

"W-what happened?" I eventually ask.

"You practically went berserk on the horde! I kinda feel bad for those zombies... We almost had to hold you back but you blacked out after killing the last one" he says.

Oh. Heh, i guess I do vaguely remember bashing in the skull of some walking corpse.

I quickly stood up looking at the massacre I caused. I think this is the 3rd time this has happened to me. I turn my focus back to the axe. I use my bat to break it out of the case and grab it. John and jefferson follow me back out towards some random store across street.

"Seriously? All that over an axe?" Jefferson questions.

"Well... Yeah!" I comment. "It's cool! An axe can be used for a bunch of stuff like chopping wood or self defense"

He pauses before responding. "So... Would you say that itd be good for, I dunno, killing?"

Something about his tone makes me feel like hes just trying to get something out of me. "I mean, I guess? If you think about it, an axe would be more effective than a knife. I wouldnt know though."

I tried to cram as much food in my bag as possible once we reached the store. John walked off to talk to jefferson so i sorta just wandered around the store to see if there was anything we needed. I couldve sworn i heard someone yelling in the distance...

~John~

"I'm tellin' ya, we cant trust him"

I glare at Thomas. "Well what makes you think that? Cuz' uh... I haven't seen a single thing wrong with Alex." I reply.

"Its the look in his eyes, Laurens. He's hiding something. I just know it." He states.

"That ain't a reason to not trust him. By the looks of it, you cant accuse him of anything. He's done nothing wrong"

"Whatever. When you wake up one day to a gun to your head, don't say I didn't warn you."

I would've made some smug comment but I got interrupted by Alex sprinting out of the store. He snatched my gun and ran back inside. I heard gunshots and not long after he came jogging outside, tossing me my gun.

"Lets go" Alex muttered while walking ahead of us.

Thomas looked back at me with a smug look on his face. It took me a moment to process what happened before i flipped him off. There's no way Thomas is right. Hamilton is just some average college student...

Right?
