n°24 - new beginnings (pt. 2)

"renjun, can we talk?" hyuck asked as they made their way to the lockers.

"but aren't we already talking?"

donghyuck let out one of his signature hearty laughs. "classic huang."

"thank you, thank you," renjun replied, curtsying, "but yes, what do you wanna talk about?"

"this probably sounds weird— it's a weird time to ask a question like this, i know.."

"it isn't weird, you can ask me anything."

"well, uh, can we start over? like as friends and stuff?"

the older paused for a moment, but then the realization suddenly came to him.

"ah, yeah that makes sense.." he muttered, feeling ashamed after getting vague flashbacks of what he had done to donghyuck in the past.

"so uh, friends?" hyuck asked after clearing his throat.

"friends." renjun said, holding his hand out for the younger to shake.

they walked over to the cafeteria area with bright smiles on, and set off to eat with their respective groups-

which would later on merge into one large clique, (but they didn't know that yet.)

donghyuck sat on the bleachers, watching jeno and mark have a 1v1 basketball match. he was going to ask jeno the same question that he asked renjun.

jeno had always been the most approachable of the trio, so hyuck had a feeling that talking to him would be easy.

mark made a shot from the three point line at the last second, winning their match fair and square.

donghyuck chuckled as he watched mark do a little dance on the court.

"whew, i'm exhausted." the oldest said, stretching. "i'm gonna go over to the student store to buy some water or something."

"alright man." jeno replied, still bummed that he lost the match.

donghyuck ran down to him as soon as he saw mark walk through the school doors.

"yo jeno, can i talk to you for a moment?"

"sure thing, donghyuck." jeno said, turning around with that iconic eye smile on his face.

"i know things in the past with us have been pretty complicated, but i know that you've changed. can we start over.. as friends?"

"YES! absolutely." the older agreed, hand moving to the top of hyuck's head to ruffle his hair. "does that mean that you'll 1v1 me in basketball too?"

"no way! you'd step on me."

"but you'd like it if mark stepped on you huh?" jeno teased.

donghyuck felt his face heat up.

"shut up, nojam."

"jaemin.. may i have a word with you?" hyuck asked quietly as he trailed behind jaemin, navigating the typically busy halls.

"hm? oh. yeah, sure."

they went over to the empty stairwell after all students cleared out of the way.

donghyuck bit his nails nervously. he knew that jaemin was the most critical out of the norenmin trio, and he didn't want to screw this up.

"what is it?" jaemin asked.

"c-can.. can we uh- start over?" hyuck asked timidly.

"uh.. elaborate on that."

"like- start over as friends?"

jaemin's eyebrows raised slightly, most likely from shock. it suddenly occurred to him that even though he had gotten over their past drama, donghyuck probably hasn't.

"oh shit. i feel bad now.." jaemin said shamefully. "i'm really sorry about that. i was such an asshole, i mean i probably still am, but what i did to you back then was something that i will never forgive myself for."

"it's okay, jaemin. we were all young and pretty immature, naive as hell too. i forgive you, which is why i asked if we could try and give ourselves a fresh start."

jaemin nodded, shaking the worries off. "mhm. i like the sound of that!"

he grabbed ahold of one of donghyuck's shoulders, giving him a pat on the back. he flashed the older one of his signature grins.

"glad that we could finally get that over with, hyuck."

donghyuck was surprised at the nickname. "me too, nana."

jaemin was taken aback at that. "who did you talk to that told you that?"

"renjun."

"ah, of course." the younger said, cheeks turning rosy.

"okay— actually though am i now qualified to call you nana?" hyuck asked, a bit worried that he had gone too far.

jaemin chuckled. "it's fine hyuck, it's fine. you can, but only on one condition."

"and what is that?"

"you must promise to take really good care of mark."

"oh? i mean yeah sure but—"

"he may have gotten some of his memories erased, but he still loves you, donghyuck. and i know you like him too."
