Opening her eyes, Amelia turned her head to look at the alarm clock.
7:48 am
Rubbing her eyes, she pushed off her sheets and sat up. Today was Sunday. A day meant for sleeping in late.
'Like I can go back to sleep,' she thought sarcastically. The events of Friday were still deeply imbedded in her mind.
Amelia stood and walked towards her bathroom. Though their house was ordinary in the neighbourhood, it was nice that every bedroom had its own bathroom.
'Just imagine waiting for Sara to get out of the shower,' she thought to herself, shuddering. Sara had the inhuman ability to shower for longer than 3 hours, so it was a relief they had their own separate bathrooms.
Looking at the mirror, she could see a girl with messy brown hair and tired eyes. Wait. Tired eyes? How was that possible when she felt like a minute more of sleep would give her a killer headache?
She turned the tap on and gathering the water up in her palms, she washed her face. The cool liquid felt refreshing on her skin. She reached out to grab the towel off the hook and wiped her face.
Making her way out, she went over to her wardrobe. On the weekends, she normally liked to wear simple, cormfortable clothes. Fumbling through her clothes, she spotted an orange top and a sunny yellow over-sized shirt. Which one to wear? Orange was one of her favourite colours; a bright, vibrant colour that went with most other colours, but she didn't really feel like it today. Putting the orange shirt back in the wardrobe, she picked out the over-sized plain yellow shirt with a pair of dark jeans.
As she dressed, she combed her hair and gathered it into a messy bun. Glancing down, her watch read 8:30 am.
Wow. Did she really take 42 minutes just to get ready?
Opening the door, she stepped out quietly and began to descend the stairs. The sizzling of bacon downstairs told her that her mother was already awake.
"Hey mum," Amelia smiled at her mother as she reached the bottom.
"Good morning Lia. Would you like some bacon?" Her mother replied, handing her a glass of orange juice.
"Sure, thanks," Amelia said as she grabbed a plate with bacon and some bread. Biting in, she looked around. "Where's Sara?"
"She hasn't been down here yet, so she's probably still sleeping. I'll go and wake her up or she'll sleep till noon. Take over the bacon for me will you sweetheart? They will need a good filp ," Her mother asked as she placed the spatula on a spare plate.
"Okay," Amelia grabbed her glass and gulped down the remaining juice as she got up. "But if it burns, don't kill me!"
Chuckling, her mother started up the stairs. "I'm sure your not that horrible at cooking!"
"You can never be so sure!" Amelia yelled, grinning.
The bacon crackled loudly after a few seconds, and Amelia quickly filpped them over. Staring out the huge kitchen window, she wondered what she was going to do today. Maybe finish off the Science assignment due next Thursday and take a ride on the bike?
