Amelia looked out the car window. Buildings and street signs sped past, as if the wind was effortlessly blowing them away.

They were on their way to the morgue. Amelia felt numb and frozen. Sara was her sister; her twin; her conjoined counterpart. There was no possible way her sister was dead. Unbelievable. Impossible.

*"Lia! Are you alright?" Sara cried out as she raced towards her sister. Amelia layed sprawled, next to her overturned bike. Blood was seeping out of a raw, deeply grazed wound on her right knee.

"My leg...," Amelia gasped, tears flowing down her cheeks.

Spotting her sister's wound, Sara reached down and ripped a strip of the edge of her dress. The designer dress that had cost over two hundred dollars. The dress that her mother had given her for her 7th birthday.

Kneeling down, Sara gently wrapped the piece of cloth around Amelia's knee and tied it with a knot.

"That should stop the bleeding for a little while. C'mon, let's get back to the house so mommy can give you a proper bandage," Sara comforted her wimpering sister. Wrapping her arms around Amelia's shoulders, Sara lead her sister towards the house.*

Tears pooled in her eyes. They had both only been 8 years old at that time. They were so close when they were little kids. It was only after entering high school that a gap had slowly formed between them; separating them by the ranks of their popularity.

"We're here," her mother's voice sounded weak and strained.

Absentmindly, Amelia reached out to open the car door. Her mother had been deathly quiet the whole trip. She could not help but feel heartbroken for her mother.

Since their father had left them, the only family her mother had remaining were her daughters. Her mother was not only left with the task of bringing her two daughters up, but she also had to fit in with other parents and work hard at her job to financially support her children.

Pushing through the black glass doors, Amelia spotted a police officer in uniform.

"Good evening, Mrs Dawn. I'm Constable Harvey," the constable walked towards her mother holding out his hand. He wore dark sunglasses, making it impossible to see his eyes.

Her mother stretched out her hand to shake but still was too fazed to talk.

"And you are...?" the constable turned his head towards Amelia's direction.

"Umm...I'm Amelia. Sara's sister. Twin sister," Amelia mumbled. Saying Sara's name aloud brought back a rush of thoughts.

Her sister's body.  Cold. Dead. Lifeless. Unmoving.

This time, there was no stopping the tears. She closed her eyes and inhaled. A teardrop was running down her cheek, about to drop off. She could hear her mother speaking with the constable in hushed voices. Or maybe it was just her head blocking out all everything.

Opening her eyes, she could just see her mother and the constable disappear around the corner of the corridor.

'Definitely not my head blocking out anything,' she thought as she hastily wiped her face and hurried down the corridor after them.
