Haikyuu Angst Oneshot [Character x Character]

Useless (Daisuga)

Sugawara has eyes like a hawk when he's focused.

His eyes are locked onto the ball as if it was his prey. He moves around only when he needs to. Every step is perfectly planned, every toss feels right in his hands. He looks so serious, you'd never see the smiley, caring Suga you do at other times.  

But when a ball rolls across the floor, the complete focus on the ball in the air and not on the ground he's stepping on becomes a problem. Before he knew it, his foot was on top of the ball, and he falls onto the floor. 

The pain behind his knee becomes unbearable. It feels like someone had taken his muscles and ripped it apart. 

"Suga!" Daichi yells, running towards him, "Are you alright?"

Holding back his tears, he tries to smile. To prove that he was still strong. 

"Yeah. I'm okay. I think I might've pulled a muscle, though."

"Here, let me pull you up. Can you stand?"

"I think so." But he can't. The moment Daichi tries to get him standing, the pain in his leg becomes worse. He was weak, something he'd always despised.

"It's okay, it's okay," Daichi whispered to him, seeing his tears that he knew Suga would hate for anyone else to see. "I'll carry you to the nurse. Relax."

Everything hurt. It was like Suga's leg wasn't his anymore. As much as he wished it was just a pulled muscle, he knew it wasn't.

The rest all seemed like a blur. Taken into the nurse's office. Examined. Taken to the hospital after realizing that it was too serious to be treated at the school nurse. Examined. X-rayed. 

"It's a torn ACL," the doctor's voice boomed, "you're going to need to rest for six to nine months. You're going to want to buy a brace for your leg, and limit any weight bearing on your knee. We'll get you some medicine that can help with pain..."

The doctors voice slowly disappeared.

Six to nine months. 

Six to nine months without volleyball. Without any practice. He's not even allowed to move. Despite not having any important matches within the next nine months, imagine the time that it would take for him to regain his skill after he's allowed to move.

Making him rest was like killing him. Taking what he loved most away from him.

Tears start forming in his eyes. He doesn't try to prevent from falling. They roll from his eyes, down his cheeks, gather onto his chin, and drip onto the floor. He can't think. His world was underwater, and he was alone.

"Suga?"

Daichi's voice snaps him back into reality.

"O-oh. Sorry. I spaced out."

"Let's get you home. I'll get all the things you need. Careful, put your weight on me."

Slowly, Suga makes it outside the office and sits on a bench.

"Hey. Does it still hurt? Is it why you were crying? I have some painkillers if you want any to subdue the pain."

Suga shook his head. The pain in his leg was nothing compared to the pain in his chest. 

"C'mon, Suga. Talk to me. What's wrong? Everything's gonna be okay."

"Nothing's okay," Suga whispered, "nothing. I can't play volleyball. I probably won't even be able to move myself and get to places on my own for at least a month. I can't set, I can't run, I can't do anything. What good am I to the team not even able to walk properly? I'm going to forget how to set by the time my leg actually works like it's supposed to." Tears were streaming down his face at this point. "I'm useless, Daichi. I'm-"

"You are not useless, Suga. Anything but useless."

"But I can't play volleyball! I can't set! What will I even do for nine months? Volleyball's my whole life! You guys... you guys are my whole life."

"And we'll be here for you, always. We'll wait, Suga"

"SUGAWARA-SANNNNNNNNN!" Voices come down through the hallway, "ARE YOU OKAYYYYYYY?" 

Hinata, Nishinoya and Tanaka create a stampede through the hallway, followed by Tsukishima, Yamaguchi, Kageyama, and a worried Ennoshita trying to make sure they don't run over anyone.

"See?" Daichi asks, "You're going to be fine. You take care of us all the time, and now we'll take care of you."

The black-haired pulls the silver-haired boy into his chest and kisses the top of his head.

"Everything's going to be okay, I promise."

Hihi everyone, it's been quite a while.

Firstly I really want to apologize to @firefli-, aka the person who actually requested this story. You literally requested this like a year ago and I'm just publishing it now, I'm sososososo sorry :(

I originally started this series because I was (and still am) one angsty ass teenager, and wanted to try writing angsts because I really enjoyed reading them (even though it makes me feel like my heart's been ripped out). When I originally started publishing this series, I never got much views or comments etc. It wasn't something super important to me, and I slowly forgot about it and stopped writing. I also fell out of the Haikyuu fandom for a while, since I only watched the anime and season 4 didn't come out for a w h i l e after season 3. (I plan on reading the manga this summer though hehe)

Over time, I always got emails informing me about people's comments on my stories and it always made me really happy to see how people actually liked my writing?? Like idk the thought that people actually enjoyed reading my angsts was really surprising to me, and it felt really great too. I wanted to thank you all so much for reading and liking my works <3

Since it's the summer now and I have considerably more time, maybe I'll publish more as well! I'll make sure to only tell people that I've accepted their request after I've actually written it to avoid more situations like this. Again firefli so sorry :(

Just a final thank-you for everyone who's read and liked all my stories! I'd never thought 4.9k people would actually read them??? Like that's honestly so crazy to me hahaha you guys are amazing thank you s much!

I will try and continue these oneshots, since a lot of you seem to like it hehe, I hope to see you guys in my next work!
