Brothers Sam and Dean Winchester sat on the hood of Dean’s 1967 Chevy Impala. To anyone not involved, it looked like the pair were peacefully watching the stars. But that was not the case.
“Damnit!” Dean swore. “Where the hell is Crowley?”
“Dean, it’s only been a half an hour,” Sam told him, exasperated with his brother. “If he says he’ll be here, he’ll be here.”
Dean glanced over at Sam. “He said it was urgent. Don’t you think that he’d be here, I don’t know, urgently?”
Sam sighed. “Dean, he’ll be here when he gets here. Are you worried he’s going to eaten or something?”
“No,” Dean scoffed. “I’d be happy if he got eaten.”
“Well, I know how much I’m loved,” Crowley said, appearing right in front of the Impala.
“Jesus Christ!” Dean said, startled.
“Unfortunately, I heard he’s on vacation,” Crowley said sarcastically. Sam, meanwhile, was laughing at Dean. Dean shoved his brother off the hood. Sam landed on the ground on his back, still laughing.
“So what’s so urgent, Crowley?” Dean asked.
“I need you to do me a favor,” Crowley said.
“What is it?” Dean asked suspiciously.
“I need you to babysit,” Crowley told him.
“Babysit?” Dean asked incredulously.
“Who?” Sm asked, calming down enough to talk.
“Me!” a feminine voice said from behind Sam, Dean and Crowley.
“Holy Hell!” Dean exclaimed, turning around to see a girl sitting on the roof of his car.
She gave him a quizzical look. “Umm, I think you’ve gotten a bit confused there, Squirrel. Hel is anything but holy,” she told him.
“What the hell are you doing on my car?” Dean exclaimed. “Get off my baby!”
“Dean!” Sam scolded.
The girl shrugged. “Okay,” she said and disappeared. She reappeared on Dean’s lap, her arms draped around his neck. “How’s this?” she asked and giggled. Dean sat there in shocked silence.
Crowley shook his head. Sam moved around the front of the Impala to get a better look at the girl that was sitting on his brother’s lap. She was small, with medium length blonde curls. Her eyes were a bright green. She was wearing jeans and a thin, mint green sweater.
“Who is she?” Sam asked Crowley.
Crowley looked at Dean and the girl. “She’s a new recruit.”
“Then why did you ask us to babysit her?” Dean asked gruffly, finally released from his shock.
“One: I’m stuck with her because there’s no other mentor available. Two: I have to go take care of something and she can’t come along, and three: Squirrel owes me a favor,” Crowley said.
“Why would there not be a mentor available? You have plenty of demons!” Dean said.
The girl hopped off Dean’s lap and onto the ground. “’Cause none of them like me,” she said.
“I wonder why,” Dean muttered under his breath.
“Because Lucy intimidates them,” Crowley said.
“Her!?” Dean exclaimed in disbelief. “She’s tiny!”
“Hey! I’ll have you know I can punch pretty hard!” Lucy told him angrily.
“Isn’t that what every ant says?” Dean taunted.
This made Lucy even angrier. She stomped over to Dean and punched him in the jaw.
“Son of a bitch!” Dean said, holding his hand to his jaw.
“Don’t taunt her, Squirrel. I’m still cleaning pieces of Alistair off my walls,” Crowley told him.
“So is that why people are intimidated by Lucy?” Sam asked.
“Partly,” Lucy answered. “It’s also because my results from the aptitude test gave me the option to either become a reaper for Death or a demon for Crowley,” Lucy said.
“It’s rare for a demon to choose to be a demon,” Crowley explained. “Most souls don’t get a choice. The other demons don’t understand it and they’re afraid of what they don’t understand. Also, they don’t want to end up like Alistair.”
“What did you do to him?” Sam asked Lucy.
Lucy looked down at the ground. “I ripped apart his soul,” she said quietly.
“You did what?!” Dean said incredulously.
Crowley sighed. “She’s a demon with reaper capabilities! How did you miss that?” Crowley exclaimed in exasperation. “I knew you were thick, but Jesus!”
“Sorry, here’s not here right now, but I can take a message, Lucy said with an impish grin. Crowley glared at her and she smirked at him.
Crowley sighed again. “I have to go. Good luck with her,” he said and disappeared.
Dean groaned.
