The days flew by as their little star began to grow, burning brightly every passing day.
Crisp fall days turned into snowy winter week and snowy winter weeks turned into flowering spring months.
On and on the months led to the day
of her very first birthday."Good morning, my little star!" Isla beamed, picking up her daughter from her crib. "Today is a very special day."
The baby let out a delighted squeal, covering her mother's face with slobbering kisses.
Paxton laughed as he tousled the thin hair splayed about the child's head. He lifted the squirming girl from Isla's arms while she began to dress.
"One year ago you were in Mommy's tummy." He stage whispered, making exaggerated facial expressions to the baby's delight, "And then you went, poof! and we got to hold you for the first time."
Isla stifled a groan as she massaged her aching back, "If I recall, it took a lot more than a poof." She was mere days away from the due date of her second pregnancy, and it had taken a toll on her body.
"Momma... poof!" The child burst into a fit of giggles. "Look what you taught her, Daddy. Now she'll be saying that to everyone." Isla said, kneading her temples, "Let's just hope it doesn't turn into another 'die' situation. Why did you even explain death to her anyway?"
"She wanted to know where her teddy bear was!" He muttered, cheeks blazing. "The teddy bear you accidentally caught on fire?" "...yes."
She gave her husband an arch brow before dissolving into a smile as she swooped in for a kiss, her tired eyes bright.
Humming a nursery rhyme, she stripped her morning robe and slipped on a dress. It's silken layers rested snugly around her swelling stomach.
Paxton placed the baby's hand on her mother's stomach and smiled. "You were in there! In mommy's belly! You were an itty bitty baby, Astraea."
Astraea gave her a puzzled look before fixing her gaze on a pile of building blocks on the floor. Paxton set her on the ground, chuckling as she crawled towards them.
Turning to her husband, Isla leaned her head on his chest, lacing her fingers through his hair. His arms wrapped around her and they stood together, wrapped in a loving embrace.
"Remember when you wouldn't even say that you love me?" Paxton murmured into her ear, his breath fluttered the wisps of hair around her temples. Shivers ran down her spine, and her breath hitched, "And now you can't stay away from me."
Isla pulled away from him and shot him a challenging look. She ran her fingers down her décolletage seductively, pausing to finger the laces that held the front together.
