Kai stumbled into the next world with a quick start. His brown hair fell in front of his face, having turned long and white, and he sighed. Of course it had to grow in the fire portal, because of course that makes sense. He sat in the grass and looked around him.
"Shit." He forgot to make sure that the portal opened somewhere safe. Even though the sky gleamed with pink and blue, and the grass was soft, Mayan had placed six guards here, and as soon as they turned around they would see the portal and kill them.
Kai waited for the three threats to appear, but they didn't. Then one of the guards turned around and spotted him. The guard took a running start towards him, and Kai backed up, wondering if he should fight or run. Determining that he couldn't leave the three threats behind, he pulled out a staff. He bit his thumb and drew a symbol on the earth in front of the portal, ensuring that it will stay open for ten more minutes. That's all he needed. After that if they still haven't shown up- Kai shook his head. That's not what he should be worried about right now.
The guard attacked, using his blade against Kai's staff. Kai held him off pretty well, falling into the familiar dance that he was used to. Dodging the attacks and returning blows. He even swooped so that the guard cut off half his hair, so that it fell in a bob around his shoulders. He made a note to cut it some more if he made it out alive. The guard said something, and Kai was so absorbed in trying to figure out what he was saying, that he tripped. The guard stabbed Kai in the shoulder, and he screamed in pain.
A stranger walked out of the portal. He looked as if his age was frozen enterally at seventeen. The stranger was six foot three, and had blue hair with black glasses. He wore a skintight bodysuit that held daggers and blades. His knuckles held silver tiger claw gauntlets. The stranger wore knee high heeled boots, and it probably concealed vials of poisons within the heels.
"Who are you?" The guard snarled. "Identify yourself at once!"
"Variel." The stranger drawled with a smirk. Kai froze. That look, it looked exactly like- he shook his head. That can't be. They were still in the portal. Somehow this guy mixed portals. Though, the likelihood of that was next to none.
"Go back before we kill you too." The guard commanded. Variel snarled, and flicked his wrist. Kai stared at him as a dagger was lodged in the guard's throat. Variel crouched down and tapped Kai's shoulder. A freezing cold washed over him, followed by a warm embrace as his cells knitted back together.
"Thank you," Kai said, getting up. Variel gritted his teeth together as he looked down at Kai in wonder.
"Do I know you?" he snarled. Kai shrugged. When he opened his mouth to ask the question, two more guards appeared.
"We can figure this out later," Kai said. "We need to run."
"Run?" Variel growled. "I will make them run from me."
The first guard never reached them. Variel vaulted over to the dead one and threw the dagger from his body at the first guard. While he was busy ducking that, He had thrown a second dagger at where he predicted the guard to duck to, getting the dagger buried into his skull.
The second guard called for help, and it soon arrived. Variel clenched his hands into fists and went swinging. Fist after fist, he sliced their necks open. He snapped spines, and licked the blood from his hands. Variel growled at anyone who thought they could fight him, until they were all backing up.
Variel grabbed onto the throat of one guard and hissed as he slammed his fist into Variel's face. He threw the man across the clearing, into a tree so that it snapped in half. When Variel turned to Kai, he frowned. Kai was being held by a guard, who was shaking but had a knife to his throat. Kai was mouthing something to him, but he didn't know what it was. Why did he care about some stranger anyway? Despite that, Variel couldn't walk away.
Save him you son of a bitch!
Variel slowly blinked and sighed softly to himself. He grabbed a dagger and threw it. He watched as the guards hand shook, swinging down instead of across. Everything seemed to slow down as Variel watched Kai's face merge into one of pain. The sword had sliced into his shoulder.
