A single tear drop fell as she watched the morning news in horror. On screen was a burning building that was once the place she shared her childhood memories with schoolmates, teachers and friends.
For most, a school would be a place of boredom and yes, that's usually what the common opinion of a school was, but to her.. a school was like a place to be free; a place to be herself. And seeing it burn on television, hurt.
Her name was Y/N L/N. She is an eighteen year old girl and was a senior in [Old School Name], the only school in the area; now it's just a pile of ash and rubble. Her mother was the only person she could rely on, considering the fact that her father was out of the picture. He was a bad man. Always in-debt and drank till' morning became night. It's a mystery how he and her mother ever bore a child. She lived in a small run-down yet cozy home in the outskirts of the city.
She ran to her mothers side and asked what they were gonna do. Since she had a single parent, money was a problem. As do most single parents.
"Don't cry dear. I had a backup plan in case something happened."
Y/N looked at her with a questioning face. Her mother sighed and told her to take a seat on the couch.
"I have a small home in another town, they have a school there that I can afford for you.." [Mothers Name] sighed again.
"But I can only afford one person to travel there." Y/N eyes went wide and tried dismissing the idea but her mother shushed her.
"This is for your own good. I want you to have a bright future and not turn out like your dear mother." Her mother held her chin softly and smiled sweetly at Y/N.
"I-I don't want to leave y-you alone.." She hugged her mother as she hugged back.
"Think of it like a vacation from this city. I'll send you the money you'll need while you're there.." Her voice hitched.
"I'll miss you so much dear. Remember that I love you, okay?" Y/N nodded.
"I love you too." Her mother smiled and hugged her tighter. Knowing this is the last time she'll see her baby girl.

A few days later, Y/N was packing her belongings and placing them in a faded F/C suitcase. It was a small since she had barely anything to her name. She looked at a picture of her and her mother, smiling and laughing. A smile formed onto her face as she packed it in. She said her goodbye to her mother and entered the taxi to the airport. She was about to leave until her mother stopped her.
"I.. I have to tell you something. It's about your father." She looked at Y/N with a sorrowful expression, who in turn had a surprised one.
"I've been telling you lies about your father. He used to be different." She paused.
"When your father and I met.. He was the most wonderful person on the planet. Your father was a wealthy man, powerful as well. Despite this though, he'd always stay humble and kind. Saying that the only thing he cared about was making me laugh.." M/N closed her eyes, a bittersweet smile on her face, as if recalling memories.
"But.. something changed in him one day. He started getting more violent and became greedier and greedier each day. And each day, the anger and hatred grew more and more.." Y/N's eyes grew large.
"One day.. I snapped at him, refusing to do something for him.. and.." She shut her eyes once more, this time a painful expression was on her face.
She sighed, "A few weeks later, I learned that I was pregnant. I didn't know what to do, I couldn't let you live in an abusive family. I wanted to see you grow and reach your dreams," She paused, a single tear drop fell from her eye. "So I ran. I ran as fast I could to get away from the place and soon I reached this place."
"Once I thought we were safe, I tried my best to keep low and hide but that can only work for so long." She looked at Y/N with eyes full of sorrow.
"Y/N, he found us." She said with a stern yet sad look.
"This trip wasn't just for you to have a normal life." M/N held Y/N's cheek through the taxi's window.
"It was so you could get out of mine." Tears fled M/N's eyes as she let go of her hold on her daughter's cheek and held her hand, rubbing it softly.
"M-mom wait-" Her mother nodded to the taxi driver and he started the car.
"I left you a surprise when you reach your house." She retracted her arm as the driver started to close the window.
All that could be heard at that moment was the yelling of Y/N telling the driver to stop and the banging against the cars window.
M/N was standing there, waving sadly at her daughter as the car was getting smaller and smaller. She let out a shaky sigh.
"Goodbye, my baby girl..."
...
But that was four months ago.
