Bryce

He could hardly say or remember his own name. When he was asked three times in five minutes, he would pause for a second as if he was digging through his brain, trying to remember the piece of information.

But after a few days, 3 to be exact, things started to come back to him. He still gets confused when he sees me sometimes, and sometimes he can't say the end of my name because of his slurred speech from the crash, but he's okay.

Nathan is okay.

"Why are... th-there s-so many te... test?" Nathan stutters out as a nurse unpeeled the armband for his blood pressure from around his upper arm. I think it's absolutely adorable how he can't pronounce some words. Yes, it's sad and it frustrates him, but just hearing him stutter is adorable to me.

"We're just making sure everything is working alright." She assured, scribbling stuff down on her clipboard before leaving the room. His eyes followed her as she walked out before they parted to me.

"Hey." I smile, rubbing his knuckles with my thumb. It is contact, that's all I need. No matter how many times I tell him that he is my boyfriend, he still gets surprised when I stroke his cheek or say that I love him.

Nathan sends me a small smile, the scar on his chin moving as he did. It was precious. His face then fell as he stared at me for a moment. "S-sorry."

I knit my brows together, "for what, Nathan?"

"F...For not rem... re... re.. mem... reme-mem." Nathan lets out a frustrated noise, grabbing the notebook on the hospital bed. It sometimes annoys him so badly that he can't pronounce a word where he has to touch his lips or teeth.

He scribbled something on the notebook, paused for a moment, then wrote again before shoving it in my hand. Grumpy baby.

I'm sorry I can't remember being with you :(

My heart ached as I re-read the words he wrote down, running my fingers at the indention of the words against the page from how harshly he pushed down on the paper.

"It's okay, ba... Nathan." I tried not to say 'babe' or 'baby' so much. He gets sad when I do for some reason. "As long as you're okay, it's fine. All I care about is that you're okay."

Nathan smiled and grabbed the notebook, looked at it for second as if he was thinking, then started to write down more words.

I would feel better if I could remember. I don't like it when you're sad.

I couldn't help but smile at his concern. "I'm not sad, Nath. I'm happy that you're okay. I'm so happy that you have been doing well, the doctor and nurses are surprised how well you are doing."

Nathan shrugged, "I guess." Nathan sat up even more in the bed, scanning the room. "I wanna walk."

I frown. Ever since Nathan woke up, he's been wanting to just get out the bed and stretch for just a minute. He can't even use the bathroom, he has a tube attached to him and he hates it.

But because of the cuts and stitches on his leg from the thick pieces of glass that were once in there, the nurses and doctor suggested that he waits until it heals more before trying to walk so it doesn't open up.

He has been dying to walk, get off his butt. He wants to take a shower and not just smell like the deodorant from the gift shop here. He hates having to brush his teeth with a cup of water and tray, sitting down. My poor baby.

"You'll be able to soon, love," I assured, squeezing his hand gently. "You'll probably only have to wait another day or two hopefully, they just don't want to stitches to open."
