Y/N ran after Gordie but she couldn't catch up .The boy was too fast for her to catch up with . She had finally had enough of running and decided to do something about it.

''Wait up.''She said and he stopped and turned around to face her.

''I needed to give you something.''Y/N said as she panted.

She pulled the yanky cap out of her bag and handed it to him.

''It was Denny's wasn't it?''Y/N asked.

He nodded before pulling her into a hug.

She smiled,laughing slightly.

''Thanks.''He said smiling widely at her.Without thinking the boy leaned in and kissed her cheek quickly. They stared at each other wide eyed.

''I'm so sorry.''Gordie said his face bright pink.

''It's fine I kinda liked-It's fine.''Y/N said cutting herself off as she pulled a strand of the hair behind her ear to cover the blush colour which had found it's way to her face.

Finally they had arrived at the store, occassionally on the walk there their hands would brush against each other causing the both of them to blush. They didn't talk that much on the way there but they did exchange glances at each other. Both of them walked into the store.

''Ain't you Denny Lachance's brother?''The shop keeper asked as Gordie put his stuff down on the till.

''Yes, sir.''Gordie said as he watched Y/N examine the alchohol section.

''Shame what happened to him. Bible says 'In the midst of life we are in    death'. Did you know that? I lost a brother in Korea. You look like your brother Denny. People ever tell you that?''The man asked.

''Sometimes.''Gordie said picking up a pack of buns as he drifted into a trance.

''I remember the year he was All-Conference. Quarterback he played. Boy could he throw. Father God and Sonny Jesus!''That's all he heard before the mans words faded and Gordie drifted further into his trance.

Flashback:

''There'll be some scouts at the game tomorrow.''Gordie's dad said as the family enjoyed a nice home made meal around the dinner table.

''I don't know, Pap.''Denny said.

''Dad, m'I have the potatos?''Gordie asked his dad.

''That's what I hear, son.''Gordie's dad said not paying any attention to his younger son.

''Are you going to see Jane after the game? I think she's a lovely girl.''Gordie's mom said smiling at her oldest son.

''May I please have the potatoes?''Gordie asked again.

His mom finally handed him the bowl and he scooped the mashed patatoes on to his spooned and put it on his plate.
