The untamed grass tickled my legs as I walked through the forest clearing. The chanting of a distant river, peaceful, gentle, full of life, welcomed me together with the rattling of the wind on the nearby trees, joined by the superb singing of the birds ruling this forest.
To join the harmony, a herd of deer walked slowly into the clearing, the calves playing, oblivious to the evil in the world. I smiled.
The barking of a dog joined the image, disrupting its peace, changing the song of the wild into a cry of war. The evil answered by firing a shot gun, then again, leaving behind the silence of a destroyed battle field.
The untamed animals fled as I approached them, running to the safety of the trees. The confused birds seemed to disagree on their song, but as soon as I lifted my prize, the proof of my victory, they all agreed in silence, even the chanting river and the rebellious wind chose to mourn the loss of their brother in silence.
Nature was once the ruler of this world, but She created Her own assassin, a race with a ticking bomb, their pride.
Their hunger for power was never met, no matter what She gave them they were never satisfied. And so, She allowed them to take from Her, unwilling to fight Her own children, and when She realized they had gone too far it was already too late.
A mother does anything to protect her child, even if it kills her.
