The car ride back home was silent. Very silent. Both girls felt the need to cry into a pillow and feel bad with themselves for not being able to help another girl that was trapped in the upside down, it really made Violet think about how many more people were in her position.
Which reminded her, she hadn't been entirely honest with Nancy about her situation. How could she explain the girl about her possible powers emerging out of nowhere. It was kind of chaotic, as Violet would think, to give her a demonstration for she didn't even knew how it actually worked.
"Back and safe at 11 O'Clock as promised" Violet forced a comment once they parked outside of Nancy's house, however none of them laughed. Nancy turned to look at her friend, with a bit of sadness in her eyes.
"Doesn't it make you mad? That the people who did this, who ruined so many lives, they just get away from this" Nancy said, she had been thinking about it the entire road back home. Violet shrugged and stared at her friend.
"It sucks. That place is filled with bullshit" Violet said reminiscing of Hawkins' laboratory.
"Shouldn't we do something about it? We have to, now more than ever" Nancy said, she stared at Violet, and realized she was way too close to her. Nancy cleared her throat and took her security belt off.
"See you tomorrow" Nancy jumped out of the car and ran towards the entrance of her house. She was confused in so many ways.
Next morning, Nancy Wheeler woke up feeling eerie. She'd remember her conversation with Barbara's parents, even worse she remember the few seconds she went into the upside down, how she found Violet and lost her just to eventually reunite with her because she was so headstrong to get her friend out. The fact that Barbara had no one to help her out, was eerie.
There was also the thought of Violet and her possible relationship with a girl that wasn't her. She had ran through this the entire night, when she got distracted from the whole Barbara situation- maybe pushing Violet away was not the best way to clear out her thoughts.
Truth is, Nancy felt a little uncomfortable thinking she'd like girls and so this is why she went back to Steve and pushed Violet away. She knows that was a shitty move, not fair for neither of her lovers, but she was in a crisis. Nancy liked Steve, for the most of it she even thought they could have a great relationship.... but she knew she didn't love him- not like she loved Violet.
Nancy ate her breakfast in silence, to the surprise of her mother and brother. Mike stared at her as she moved around the food with her fork, he arched his brow and poked her arm. Nancy turned to look at him.
"you okay?"
Nancy's expression changed immediately, her brother had never asked her if she was feeling okay. This was a one in a million moment, she smiled at him and nodded. Nancy washed her plate in the sink and walked upstairs for her backpack. She waited outside her house for Steve to pick her up, but once the clock hit 7:30 am she realized he wouldn't come.
"Dad can you drop me at school?" Nancy asked the man before he could leave, he arched a brow and looked at his daughter confused.
"Wasn't your friend Steve picking you up?"
"No, not today" Nancy said softly, the man groaned and grabbed her by the arm, forcing her to get into the car quickly.
The car ride was silent, her father was never the one to do small talk or any sort of talk. She'd realize that maybe she would need to apologize to Steve, she remembered:
The small party at Steve. What a night, Nancy thought to herself. It turned out to be a pity party, for everyone but mainly the Hawkins' spotlight couple. Nancy would dance towards her boyfriend with a red cup filled with tequila and sprite, as Violet had once told her, and handed it to him. Steve would grab her by the waste and kiss her cheek as a thank you gesture. Steve loved parties, but he was changing- Nancy could tell he had laid down, perhaps retired from the entire socialite life.
