"Sometimes we have to go deep inside ourselves to solve our problem."

Glancing sideways, his breath caught in his throat as he beheld the squirrel of his dreams sitting near the window in the restaurant.

Her beautiful chestnut fur seemed to glitter in the most astounding way when the refracted light shone down on her. The way she walked so elegantly in the clumpy space suit, how her eyes shone like almonds...

Prying his eyes away, his heart sunk lower, knowing that his crush was in vain. His Oceanic blue eyes darted back to the task at hand; flipping patties and making burgers.

The smell of fat and meat burning stayed as a constant reminder that he'd never be good enough for someone like Sandy. Tears brimmed at the corner of his eyes and for the first time, he wondered if it was because of the onions or the cold reality he lived in.

A forced chuckle left his mouth as he tried to smile despite his overwhelming sadness. A smile could apparently force your brain to think that you're happy... And that's all he needed.

Happiness.

Whether it was forced or genuine, he didn't care, he just needed a way to feel better immediately. His pitiful thoughts were pushed aside as he heard a gentle knock on the door.

"Ehh... SpongeBob?" A hesitant yet angelic voice filled his ears and he froze.

A small blush dusted his cheeks as the thick and familiar accent reached him. He quickly shunned the tiny involuntary flutter inside his heart as a smile played on his lips.

"Come in! I just gotta finish this batch of burgers, s-should be done in a minute," a blooming smile was plastered on his face as the door creaked open. He cursed his stupid mouth as the door opened, showing his adorable space girl.

A light blush coated his features as his eyes stayed trained on the patties. Quickly he finished up, carefully stacking the ingredients together to make the famous burger called the 'Krabby Patty'. He let out a chuckle as he remembered the silly name the customers had given it.

As he finished the last one he turned to wash his hands, wiping them on his already dirty apron. A slight trickle of shame filled him as he noted his greasy apron, filthy and disgusting; like him.

Pushing the depressing thought aside he glanced up, finally daring to make eye contact with Sandy. He stared, taking in all of the small features that he thought were beautiful. The pink flower she usually wore was vibrant and elegant, but it was nothing compared to her.

An adorable action of Sandy clearing her throat snapped him out of his gaze, his face as red as Mr. Krabbs shell.

"Did you hear any of that?"

Sandy looked at him hopefully, as if expecting something. A small blush coated her cheeks and her charismatic brown eyes glittered happily.

SpongeBob flinched, suddenly unsure of what to say in a situation like this. He couldn't exactly tell her that he was to caught up in his love for her that he completely zoned out!

"Ummm.... I'm so sorry Sandy, could you repeat that? I wasn't really listening- Oh! Sorry that came out worse than I expected-"

An awkward silence hung in the air and Sandy let out a sigh of disappointment. Her ears drooped and her small hopeful smile diminished.

He immediately regretted his choice of words.

The squirrel of his dreams turned tail and ran, the forgotten burgers cold. Worry lined SpongeBob's forehead and he glanced at the kitchen around him before looking back at the door she had ran through.

Making a quick and reckless decision that would probably get him fired, he chased after her; pushing the kitchen doors open only to pass a long que of customers on his way out. He wanted to chuckle as he saw the shocked and confused face of Squidward on his way out.

He bursted through the restaurants doors, his eyes flickering wildly to try and spot Sandy. A clunky space suit sat on a bench a few meters away from his work, the exotic flower lay on the the bench beside her, ripped.

A sigh of relief left his mouth and he ran towards her, annoyed that the water he was absorbing made him look fat. He waddled over, his shyness overruled by his concern for her.

"SANDY! I don't know what I did but I'm sorry... Are you, are you okay? I saw you were upset and I ran without thinking- actually I may lose my job, I don't know- I'm sorry and I want to hear you out- your flower, why is it ripped? You loved that flower! What type was it-"

His rambling was cut short by a chuckle. A chuckle that melted his heart and calmed his worries.

"I'm okay, I should have seen you were preoccupied," Sandy began, her voice light yet it didn't go unnoticed that she was still upset.

"Whatever you want to say, I'm here now and I swear to listen."

SpongeBob's voice rang with clarity as he spoke to his space girl. Raw emotion left his eyes teary as he spoke, knowing that although she would never love him, he promised to be there for her forever.

"Spongebob.... I love you."

Her words came as a shock to him. It was the least expected thing and yet, when he put his hand in his pocket, he knew he was ready to answer her love with his own.

Falling to one knee he pulled out a small, velvet box.

A confused gasp left the dumbfounded squirrel and he looked at her in a gentle way that told her to shut up. Closing his eyes, he began...

"Sandy, for as long as you've known me; I've loved you twice as long. That doesn't make sense but neither does our love...
You came from the stars, a world above our own and yet today you decided to shine your light of love on me.
I love you too, and will you; Sandy, do the honour of being my wife?"

Opening his eyes, tears began to form. Sandy, his space girl was gone; leaving him alone and tired, a desperate sponge seeking love.

Looking at the box he felt his spirit change into one of happiness. In the box, the 100k gold; Ruby and diamond studded ring with a priceless blue Crystal; was gone.

And in it's place was a small scrap of paper with the word,

Sure.
