Chapter 4

Getting ready for a party surely takes a long time, but when Teresa is added to the equation, it took Sophia and her best friend five hours to leave the house. Not much? Well, it was certainly long enough to give Sophia a headache although the night didn't start yet.

"Oh my god, my head hurts like hell." Sophia complained. She and headaches have bad history, we'd still say they aren't on good terms. "If headaches were people, I'd punch them so hard that they'd beg for mercy."

Teresa laughed. "Stop being a baby Soph. Just relax, we're almost there."

The car came to a stop infront of the 4 Seasons hotel. The chauffeur opened the door for Sophia and Teresa and they got out.

Immediately, photographers started calling Sophia's name and took pictures of her. She rolled her eyes, she knows that they just want a new topic for their gossip magazines. She put her mask on her face and quickly entered the hotel.

"Wow, I feel like a star on the red carpet." Teresa smiled. "Oh my god look there!" She squeled, grabbing her best friend's hand and running.

"It's Zac Efron!" She nearly screamed. "We're so lucky he didn't put on his mask yet! C'mon! We have to take a selfie with him."

"Ugh, you and your selfies." Sophia muttered. Teresa was the kind of girl that would take countless amount of selfies if she went to the school's toilet. So Sophia wasn't surprised she wanted to take a selfie with Zac Efron.

"What? It's Zac Efron you idiot. You don't see him everyday."

After taking lots of selfies that Zac Efron was about to throw Teresa's phone across the room, he execused himself and left in a hurry.

"I feel like I'm on cloud nine." Teresa said dreamely. Sophia raised an eyebrow at her best friend. Tess the Drama queen will come back in 3,2..

"I don't know what's your problem with Zac? I thought you said that you'd try to get along with all my boyfriends."

"Zac? Boyfriend?"

"Yes. Just look at his perfect jawline, perfect body, perfect-"

"I'll go get a drink." Sophia rolled her eyes, interrupting Teresa.

"Sometimes I question your sexuality." Tess mumbled quietly.

"Yeah, whatever."

"You didn't deny." Tess shouted, laughing hysterically.

Grabbing two plastic cups, Sophia filled them with beer and headed back to where Tess stood, flirting with a random guy.

But the random guy wasn't any random guy, he looked like the guy they met earlier at the mall. The one who ruined her day, her t-shirt and her favorite drink.

Was this guy following them? Ugh, Sophia had enough of creepy guys going after her. But having a stalker exceeded the limits.

Sophia narrowed her eyes and walked angrily towards them. She grabbed Tess' hands and pulled her away from him. "You!" She said angrily. "Stay away from my best friend!"

"You should say the same for her." He smirked. Ugh, what an arrogant bastard.

"I think I should leave you guys alone for a moment. Don't worry I'll be back." Teresa laughed nervously and then left.

Sophia narrowed her eyes at the stalker. "What are you doing here? Are you following me!"

"Not everything is about you."

"Oh wait. Don't tell me you're one of the guests. You don't look like a bachelor." Sophia laughed sarcastically.

Liar.

"That's because I'm not."

"Then what are you doing here smartass?"

"My high school sent me here." He said simply.

Wow, he's so straight forward. Sophia wanted to know more but when she was just about to open her mouth, Nicole Hastings voice filled the hall cutting her daughter's coming words.

"It's time for the dance ladies and gentlemen." She smiled. "Grab your partner and get right now on the dance floor!"

Everybody left what they're doing even Teresa and started dancing except for the cute guy and Sophia. Partner-less. Great.

"I don't have a partner."

"Neither do I." Sophia said, looking away.

"Um.. So, would you like to dance?" He asked shyly. The cute guy mentally hit himself. What a smooth idea. She was just yelling at him seconds ago and now she would just change her mind and accept? Ok, he should really win the stupidist man of the year award. He deserves it.

"Yes I'd like to." Sophia said, still looking away, a faint blush appearing on her soft cheeks.

Her answer surprised both of them, but none of them said a word as he took her hand and gently led her to the dance floor.

Liam put his hand on Sophia's waist and pulled her a little bit close to him. She wrapped her arms around his neck cautiously and relaxed, swaying slowly to the song.

"You seem quite." He said lamely, trying to open up a conversation.

Sophia smiled faintly. She felt like saying what she has been bottling up her whole life. She wanted to get anything off her chest, so she whispered, "You know, sometimes I feel like my everyday routine never changes. Same events, same Paparazzi stuffing their nose in everything. Same people expecting me to be perfect. So it feels good right now. It feels good, to have a change, to dance. That's why I'm quite. I want to enjoy this moment."

Liam didn't expect this kind of answer from Sophia. He never thought this beautiful girl would open up to him.

'well, kind of'.

He never thought a rich young lady like Sophia Hastings would get bored of her life. He used to judge rich people, and who wouldn't? They had the perfect life everyone wishes for. Why would they complain?

Sophia closed her eyes and smiled. She liked where she was. She liked the feeling of having no care in the world, just dancing in a stranger's arms, even if it was just for a few minutes.

The soft symphony stopped and the dance was over. Nicole Hastings thanked the guests and people started leaving the hall, as it was already late and the ball was over.

Liam released Sophia from his embrace and they both stood where they were, not knowing what to say until Liam broke the silence,

"There was a moment in my life when I really wanted to kill myself. And there was one other moment when I was close to that... But even in my most jaded times, I had some hope. It's the possibility that keeps me going, not the guarantee." He whispered.

"I hope I see you soon, Sophia Hastings." He said lastly, and left.

Sophia gazed at his back as he made his way out of the hotel. She felt her heart beating urgently and quickly.Who knew the cute guy would say such wise words?

"Sophia!" Tessa called her best friend. What a moron! She's just standing there staring at nothing while everyone is leaving. "C'mon Soph," She gently took her hands and made their way to their limousine. "We have school tomorrow. I'll take you home."

Uh, yes! The first day of my senior year.

Sophia turned her head towards where she stood earlier with Liam. It feelt strange to say his name like this, but all she knew is that she felt secure back there, she felt good. This night will last in her memory for a lifetime, even if fate didn't bring them together one day.

This is where it all begins, everything starts here, today.
