16 Years Late

Everyone decided not to bring up what happened with zach yesterday but they were going to discuss it after his birthday which was tommorow.

Zach

I walk into the kitchen where everyone was sitting at the table but they went silent when I walked in makeing me feel a little uncomfortable I grab a water bottke from the fridge when my dad calls me over.

I go over to my dad and he pulls me into his lap smiling at me revealing his tooth gap "ya know what tomorrow is?" He asked brushing hair away from my face and I looked into his icy blue eyes. "Sunday?" I say in a sort of sarcastic tone but mostly just a dumb tone ut I knew what tomorrow was.

"No silly its your birthday! You'll be 16!" He smiled widely kissing my head dad was always more excited for my birthdays than I was.

"Nah hes turning 10" I smile as I heard ebens voice from behind me. I rest my head on my dads chest and he played with my hair i look at Jonah he smiles at me before eating a grape from the bowl of fruit he was eating a few seconds pass before I felt something gently graze my lips I jerk my attention to the strawberry on the fork jonah was holding to my lips I gave him a confused look.

"Here eat it" he smiled leaning on the table I take the strawberry off the fork and nibble it then give him a cheeky smile he smiled back but I could tell for some odd reason he wanted to feed me the strawberry.

Jonah

"Common Dani help me pick out a birthday present for zach" I say pulling daniel into the store by his hand. I needed to make this gift special I never got to get him a birthday gift before so this one needs to be special.

My feet immediately followed my brains request and went to the art supplies and daniel helped me look but it was mostly just cheap pencils with those one kind of erasers that dont erase just smear it and makes it worse and some note books but I wanted to get him something nice not the hell spawns of pencils that dont do their job and erase the problem so me and daniel looked some more.

I was about to gjve up on this store and go to another store but danie came over to me and  tugged on my arm then directed to an isle with things like ukuleles, harps, and guitars.

Daniel lead me to a dark blue almost black guitar it looked just like my old one that daniel got me but i burned that one three years after I left daniel and zach because it brought me so much pain having to look at it in the corner of the room everynight watching it collect dust and not be playing it to my baby as he slept or play music for daniel I couldnt take it so I took it out side and busted it on the stone sidewalk and put it in the fire pit with a heavy heart letting my lit cigarette take a huge part of my life into the flames. "It looks just like yours" daniel smiled "it was just like mine" I correct him sighing "what do you mean ?" He asks "I burned my guitar a few years after I left home" I say picking the instrument lightly strumming it but it was in that moment that I knew this was fate I had to get it for zach. "W-why" daniel asked looking up at me I shrug "lets get him this" I smile at him he smiles and nods his head.

Me and daniel buy the guitar for zach and quickly go home and wrap it up in wrapping paper and hide it in our closet.

Nobody pov

Jack and eben neatly wrote a small paragraph in zachs birthday card telling zach about the baby that was on the way they thought it would be easier to tell the boy this way.

"Hey zachy" jack asked knocking on zachs door the birthday card in hand "Yeah" zach said opening the door "I- well me and eben got you an early birthday card" jack stuttered handing zach the card in a baby blue envelope "Oh okay thanks" zach said taking the envelope from jacks hands and slowly starting to open it.

Zach felt something off about the card since Jack was watching him with anxiety filled eyes as he opened it. Zach opened the card and quickly read through it his mouth falling open in shock in the process "really?! Really!?" He asked happily smiling big. "Yeah really! Do you wanna touch the bump?" Jack asked smiling just as wide as zach. "Yes!" Zach said happily. Jack smiled taking zachs hand and placing it on the small bump zach couldn't help but giggle.

Later that day zach was in his room drawing random cartoon characters when jonah came to see him.

"Hey zach do you wanna go somewhere with me?"  The man asked biting his bottom lip nervously hoping the boy would go with him to look at engagement rings for him and Daniel.

Weeks ago daniel said he'd marry jonah but jonah didnt have a ring and he doesn't want to use the same ones from the first wedding.

"Where are we going?" Zach asked. Jonah claimed the door and looked at the boy "to buy an engagement ring for your dad" he said quietly zach smiled wide "yes let's go" zach said grabbing jonahs hand on his way out the door.
