Chapter 3
Dakota opened the bay door, walking down the ramp as the wind started to rush in. looking straight down, he took in the distance between the bay door and the face of the planet Dalian below. The small rush of adrenaline was able to momentarily overcome the pain in his chest. He had been in constant pain since he had spotted the queen at her coronation. He had known immediately that she was meant to be his, but due to the differences in their races, he was forced to fight for her.
Just because his skin was lighter! Just because his hair was darker! Just because his markings weren’t translucent symbols on his skin, but were deep purple slashes! Whereas her people get lighter as they go up in status, his get darker.
He felt as if he could punch straight through something with the rage bubbling in his chest. The Soicraltees didn’t believe the Dalians were a different race as was the reversed, but instead that they were two separate races of the same species waiting to be combined. There were many small differences in physical appearance, but he had studied the anatomy, the only true difference was the receptor in the mind of a Soicraltees. He was kept from his soul mate just because of physical differences!
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a single Dalian soldier moving toward their cruiser. Dakota dropped his hand to his holstered gun, prepared to fight if the need arose. Instead of engaging in combat, the soldier stopped directly below the bay door, bowed low, and pulled out a white clothe to spread over the ground. The soldier looked up at Dakota for a signal. Dakota motioned him upward.
The soldier’s form steadily rose, crouched, and then launched into the air. Once he landed on the bay door, he once again bowed to Dakota.
Stand soldier and state your purpose,” Dakota demanded.
“You are the heir correct?” The soldier asked. Dakota growled at the name the Dalians had dubbed him with. It was both annoying and demeaning to be called by your title rather than your given name.
“Yes.”
This message is for the king,” the soldier held out a single black tube that contained the message.
“Give it here,” Dakota demanded, reaching for the tube. The soldier jerked the tube back and clutched it against his chest.
“I am sorry, dear heir, but I must deliver this message directly to the king.”
Dakota stiffened in rage and motioned for the soldier to follow. Dakota noticed the solder’s hand fall cautiously to his gun and couldn’t help but smirk. He led the soldier down many hallways to the center of the ship and to his father’s office. He knocked on the steel door and waited for it to slide open. The familiar hiss soothed his ears as the door slid open.
“Father, there is a soldier here with a message for you, Dakota moved toward one of the two seats in front of his father’s desk while the soldier remained standing.
“Speak,” said the king, his voice deep in texture but not rough as Lord Gear’s was.
“King Ren, I bring you a message from our former lord, Gear, and our current queen, Annika,” the messenger stepped forward to place the black tube upon Ren’s desk. Dakota was instantly looking over Ren’s shoulder as he opened the tube.
“What’s it say?” Dakota pressured.
“Give me time to open it boy,” Ren growled, “I swear you are acting like a child instead of the two hundred year old adult that you are. Act like the young man you are instead of being immature.”
