Spring, 1769, New York City

"Father, father!" I called out as I ran down the stairs.
"Today's the day! I'm twelve years old today!"
I looked around the shop, no sign of my dear father anywhere.

"Hello?" I ask sheepishly, peering over the bar that separates the smithing area from the shopping parlor.

"Haha!" My father jumped out from behind one of the stoves. "Father! It's my birthday!" I started to leap around with joy.

"Yes it is, my dove" father took a lit candle and placed it on one of the work tables. It's light flickered about, just like my excitement. I had been waiting for this day ever since my father made his promise.

"What do we do first?" I queried.

"Come. Sit next to me and I'll show you how to become a blacksmith..."
