Bob gave a deep sigh and put his hands on his hips. "Well, maybe I do need to let go, but now is definitely not the time for it. Thanks to you, my daughter knows I'm here now, and if that makes her happy, that shot of adrenaline can help her through this phase of training."
Lizzie's door suddenly opened, and Max noticed she was now wearing her dad's Genesis shirt. She smiled at him and nearly skipped downstairs to the kitchen. "Hey, now I won't be able to tell the two of you apart," Max joked at Bob as they followed her downstairs. They rested at the bottom of the stairs while Lizzie joined her mother in the kitchen.
"Morning, Mom! What's for brekkie?"
"Well, you seem to be in good spirits this morning," her mother said as she dropped a few strips of bacon onto Lizzie's plate. "Thought we could both use a treat this morning. I'm in a bacon and pancakes mood."
"Mmm..." Lizzie grabbed a strip immediately and started munching.
Mrs. Boggs was surprised by her daughter's positive attitude. She hadn't seen Lizzie like this since before her father passed away. "What has you feeling so good this morning?" She turned back to the counter to grab the plate of pancakes.
"Oh, I dunno. I guess I just had a good sleep, for once." She smiled.
"Don't think I don't notice Daddy's shirt, there." She placed the pancakes on the table, and smiled, warily. "Looks good on you."
"Yeah, this was always Daddy's favorite." Lizzie grabbed a pancake.
"Just like you," Mrs. Boggs smiled again and gave a little chuckle.
Lizzie smiled back at her mother. "Like both of us, Mom," she beamed.
Mrs. Boggs beamed back at Lizzie, feeling a wave of pure happiness wash over her. She filled her plate. "Hey, maybe you and I can do something fun today, like go see a movie. Whattaya think?"
Lizzie smiled, wondering if her dad would be with her for that as well. "Sure, Mom!"
Max approached Lizzie at the table. "Hey, Liz! Your dad and I need you for a little while this morning. There're some things he wants me to help teach you."
"Um, Mom?" Lizzie kept her positive tone.
"Yes, sweetie?"
"After breakfast, do you mind if I go out for a walk?"
"Where?"
"Oh, just out. I could just stroll around the graveyard."
"Isn't that a little... well... morbid?"
"Not at all." Lizzie crunched away her last strip of bacon. "It's quiet. I like it."
Mrs. Boggs shrugged. "All right. I'll check on what's playing while you're out there. We can do a matinee after lunch. Sound good?"
Lizzie gulped down her orange juice and wiped her face. "Yeah!" She shoved away from the table and grabbed her empty plate to put in the sink.
"You're done already?"
"Yeah, not too hungry! See you later, mom!"
"Um, okay! Say hello to the ghosts for me."
Lizzie stopped short, staring at her mom. "What?"
"I said, 'Say hello to the ghosts for me.' You know... in the graveyard?"
Lizzie chuckled nervously. "Heh heh... oh yeah... Good one, mom." She grabbed her jacket and waved as she scurried out the front door. "See you later!"
