Hate to be the killjoy here but all this does is assert the fact that the fashion of the rich would eventually diffuse to the poor.
"When the taste of one group emerges as potentially amassing cultural capital, we distance ourselves from that taste to redefine the cultural norm.
Worse, we react violently to put them in their place.
We mock, we laugh, we taunt - just to reaffirm that they who enroach on our cultural capital have a long way to go to match our economic capital."
In short,
we're all assholes trying to convince ourselves we're better than them just because we have the money to buy more expensive clothes that look the same as theirs.
