"Esther! Alexis! You're going to be late if you don't get up now!" I heard Dorothy shout from outside the bedroom door. I groaned as I rolled onto my back. First day at a new school. This was going to be just great, ha.
"Yeah yeah I'm up." I groaned, at the exact same time that Esther mumbled "Five more minutes mum.."
I sat up on the bed, so my legs were dangling over the side. My eyes were still getting adjusted to the sunlight shining through the window. Esther still lay asleep, her snores quiet.
"Esther!" I yelled, causing her to jump up immediately, her eyes wide with fright. I couldn't help but laugh, she threw me a scowl.
"I'm not in the mood for school today." Esther groaned as she started to make her way to the chest of draws she had on her side of the room.
"Tell me about it, at least you ain't starting at a new school. I don't even have you there to support me considering as you'll be in the opposite end of the school." I mumbled, rolling my eyes as I pulled out the uniform of which I would be wearing 5 days a week. I stared in disgust at the red uniform that lay in front of my eyes.
"Don't worry, you'll get used to the uniform and the school easily." Esther said as she walked out the bathroom, already dressed. She had clearly seen the expression on my face when I was looking at the uniform. "Anyway, I'd hurry up and get ready if I were you, we have to leave the house in 10 minutes."
"Shit, seriously?" I asked, my eyes scanning over everything I had, trying to know where I should begin.
"Yeah." Esther responded. Her hair was already brushed, her makeup applied neatly with her bag slung over one of her shoulders. "I'll see you soon."
I waited until Esther had left the room, before rushing around and trying to find everything to put in my bag. I was sort of excited. It was a new start to my school life. I quickly changed into my school uniform, taking one quick look in the mirror. I pulled a face, straightening my shirt.
"Hurry up Alexis! You're gonna make us late!" I heard Esther yell from down the hallway.
"I'm coming now!" I shouted back. I applied a touch of lipgloss to my already pink lips, before leaving the bedroom and walking into the kitchen.
"About time you showed up woman, any longer and you would've been late to your first day at the school." Dorothy said, but a smile was spread across her face.
"Can we just go already mum?" Esther pleaded.
"Yeah, let's go before we actually do end up arriving late." Dorothy said, she was already halfway out the door. Esther and I followed. Mum and Sam were nowhere to be found, probably still sleeping, thank god. Mum needed a good rest, I don't think she had ever had a proper good nights sleep.
"Good luck today, Alexis. I'm sure you'll have a good time, there hasn't ever been a problem with Esther before." Dorothy said to me as I took a step out of the car, Esther was long gone by this time.
"Thank you." I let a small smile filled with gratitude spread across my face as I watched her drive away. As soon as her car was out of eyesight, I turned around, only to be faced by a huge, haunting, horrific building. I guess this was what I was going to be calling school from now on. I shuddered at the sight, before taking my very first step into the school ground.
I kept my head down, holding the books close to my chest as I kept walking. I could hear whispers all around me. I should have known better than to think I was just going to be automatically liked. This is high school, the place where everybody judges before they know. I tried to ignore them by pulling out the timetable that Dorothy had given me. I had double english first up. That was good for me, English was my strongest subject, and my favourite.
