The sun was rising over the palace. It was still quiet but the noise would soon escalate into the typical loud chatters while merchants sold their goods and townsfolk did the day's chores. Hooves clopped along the brick paths, carrying the rider and their wares. There were many different faces in the bazaar. Gruff men whom looked to have spent many nights in the pubs drinking their problems away, young women that lit up the streets with their grace and kindness. There were children playing games and filling the air with laughter. The mixture was lively and kept things interesting for sure.
It was not the same for Kageyama.
A yippy group of petite elder women burst through his bedroom door just as they did every single morning. Kageyama groaned out tiredly and rubbed his eyes harshly with the back of his hands. Busy days one after another was certainly draining but was not something he could avoid.
"Get up! Get up! It's time to get ready!" One of them directed with a loud but quaint voice.
Kageyama watched as the women divided to set up for his morning groom. He sat up and a light tunic was shoved over his head and crumpled around his neck. He blew the messy bed hair out of his eyes and stood up. He fixed his shirt and pushed the sleeves to his elbows. One of the short women threw brown riding pants and very tall boots at the young prince and rushed him off to his changing pane.
"You need to change fast, your highness. You cannot be late and I can tell you right now your father would not be pleased!" She spoke and motioned for one of her fellow assistants to prepare the hair tools.
Kageyama swiftly put on his attire he was given and looped his leather belt through the pants. After the quick change, he was dragged over to a glass vanity. Many different objects were placed among the vanity just for the prince's hair and appearance. The hair stylist took over while the previous woman left to announce the prince would be making his appearance soon. The remaining waited patiently for the morning preparations to be complete, which usually only took mere minutes.
The stylist took a golden comb to his black, long hair, slicing through it and letting it fall back into place again. Some strands were bent out and tangled where Kageyama had rubbed his head against his pillow the previous night. Kageyama watched himself in the mirror and slid on his light gloves. They fit perfectly around his long, elegant fingers.
"Everything okay, your highness? Lots to do today isn't there hmm?" She smiled at him through the mirror.
Kageyama nodded gently, making sure not to mess up the woman's work.
"Indeed there is. Discussion about my progress and marriage will take place, and much more I am sure.." He replied.
The woman nodded with a very bright smile. She took a small piece of hair from the side of his head and began braiding it.
"That is lovely, isn't it? I remember the days where you first began to walk and here you are, soon to be married. Lucky lass she will be. I'd drink to that!"
Kageyama chuckled and ran his fingers along the side of his pants before lifting his leg up to tie his boots.
"Possibly, ma'am. I've never met the girl. Could be quite unsuited for me. By that I mean we could not get along.. Or something of that sort." Kageyama shrugged.
The woman rolled her eyes, following with a huff. She applied delicate beads to the long braid she tied.
"As long as your children don't have your thick hair, I do not care. It is incredibly hard to work with at times." She chuckled and carefully put his crown on his head. It was shaped like ivy and shined of wealth, passed down through many generations. Though it was old, the details remained pristine and it gleamed as if it were brand new.
