on their walk home, jeno finally pulled out his and jaemin's little present for renjun. the night had ended in renjun placing second, but that was still enough for him and jaemin to cheer as if they were at a football game.
and renjun acted as if he didn't know them.
yup, it was that bad.
the night air was making its presence known by gently whisking past the three boys, who had their hands comfortably interlocked. nothing could really mess with the quiet peace they had now. they were just enjoying the quaint simplicity of silent affection, as being there with each other was enough to fill their hearts up with bliss.
renjun was more than overjoyed when his boyfriends showed up. through the embarrassing public displays of affections, he was still able to confidently say that these two idiots belonged rightfully in his heart.
even if he wasn't the one to say such things out loud, like jaemin or sometimes jeno, it was just the unspoken actions that made up for the lack of verbalization. the little quick kisses on the cheek before running off to their own classes, or just a simple smile sent each other's way was just enough.
it was enough to satisfy all three of them.
sure, being in a relationship of three had its downs, but there was definitely more ups to overpower those.
right when jaemin and jeno were dropping renjun off at his house, they stopped him and presented him with their joint gift.
the brown parcel had made its appearance a few times throughout the night, but renjun didn't say anything as it didn't seem that important. so when jeno held it out to him, he was genuinely confused as to why he was giving him it.
"what's this for?" he asked.
"it's for you silly." jaemin answered, gesturing the shorter to take the parcel, that fittingly had a moomin patterned bow around it. (jeno has to fight jaemin about giving renjun another moomin themed present, but in the end, the younger won anyways. how? that's for your iMaGiNaTiOn)
"it's not my birthday? nor is it anywhere near christmas?"
jeno playfully rolled his eyes, "consider it a gift for placing. besides, who said we couldn't spoil you once in a while?"
renjun took the parcel into his hands with a bit of hesitance before he started to unwrap it. inside it was beautifully crafted wooden paintbrushes. the handle had intricate designs carved into the polished wood; he could make out leafy vines and small spouts of flowers here and there. its bristles porcelin were white, and he can say for sure this was totally way better than his battered up ones laying in one of his drawers. heck, he doesn't even think he can use them because they're so pretty.
