What did you hope to find,
When you searched my soul?
Perhaps you were looking for a spark,
Perhaps a dream I wish to fulfil,
a laughter lined with simplicity,
Or a heart of imperishable will?
What did you hope to reveal,
By scrabbling through my mind,
When you dived deep in my brittle psyche?
Was it a medley of emotions,
Was it mellow colours of hope,
Stirring stories of courage,
Or hidden talents beyond scope?
It aches me to let you know,
That I am none of that, none at all.
My soul slouches as I grow weary,
Of how dull someone like me can be.
It aches me that I fall short of,
Your vivid expectations of me.
I wish you wouldn't try to see through me,
I wish you'd hold back, your curiosity,
For all you'll see are extirpated dreams,
And a spirit so dull, the most vibrant colours,
Turn grey in the blink of an eye,
And what aches me the most,
Is that I ache you as well,
And yet, you've been holding my hand,
So tell me, oh please do.
What did you find in me,
When you peeked through my soul?
