My eyes flew open as I sat straight up, my heart racing. I looked around my room. Everything was dark and the only sound was the crickets and the frogs. It was just a dream. I closed my eyes and inhaled slowly, holding my breath for a few seconds before slowly letting it out again. I let myself relax and focused on listening to the chorus coming from outside.
I loved that medley of frogs and crickets. The two sounds came together to create natural and beautiful music. As I listened I became more comfortable. And the more comfortable I became the more of the dream I could remember. Until I could see the wolf that I saw in my dream.
He was huge. At least six five with gray fur covering his whole body. His teeth were the fangs of an animal and his face was like a wolf's. The most unnerving features, though, were his eyes. They weren't dark like a wolfs but bright blue, almost clear. And they looked as if they could see into your very soul. These dreams had been happening for nights now. And each time they've been more vivid. It was putting me on edge and I had a feeling the others could tell that something was wrong. But I couldn't tell them.
I went through them in my mind. There are six of us if you include me. There's Kindel who's only thirteen, but acts like he's older and only sometimes shows he childish side. His streak of blond hair and dark blue eyes added to the illusion of him being older than he actually was. Of course, being almost 6 feet tall helped too. Then there was Lego. He was all types of annoying. His mouth never stopped moving and he says anything that pops into his mind. He's 12 and has shaggy black hair that he refuses to untangle and playful brown eyes. There's Moon and Bear, two brothers. Moon is 9 and Bear is 8. They look almost nothing alike, Bear having curly brown hair and brown puppy dog eyes and Moon having straight dirty-blond hair and crystal blue eyes. Moon is strong and brave and doesn't like to talk very much, but when he does it's usually a lot deeper than a 9 year old should be saying. And Bear is goofy and sweet and loves to joke around. He's a sweetheart and can have his feelings hurt easily. And then there's Star. She's only 6 and is so sweet. Her long, curly, blonde hair is always needing brushed and her baby blue eyes can persuade me to say yes to everything. She is so beautiful. She loves to be outside, just like me, and is sweet only when she chooses to be. That child can be vicious when she wants to be. Last is me. I'm 15 years old. I have long, plain brown hair and dull brown eyes. I'm plane. I love the outdoors and animals.
Oh, there's one very important detail I left out for everyone. We all have wings. KIndels' wings are white straight through and somehow he manages to keep them clean. Lego has brown wings that start off light brown then goes down to turn black on his wing tips. Moon has jet black wings and Bear has wings the same color as his eyes which I like to call teddy bear brown. And Stars' wings are absolutely beautiful. They are a grayish black with pure white spots speckled all over her feathers. My wings are white with brown speckles.
As I thought through all these things and listened to the sound of the crickets and frogs, I slowly drifted to sleep, and the wolves slowly slipped from my mind. At least at that moment.
